First off, I don't agree with Putin or have hero worship of him or what ever the folks with the tingly feeling up their leg with Barry want to accuse people of.

That said, I gotta take my hat off to the man. He is working in his and and his country's interest and DGAF about what the "world" thinks because he knows they may bitch but without true leadership the "world" is just going to watch him treat them like his bitch.

He knows 'ol Barry doesn't have the stones to stand up to him, China DGAF, and the rest of the world combined does't have the ability without the US to do anything. So Putin will do what he wants how he wants.

The truly brilliant part is, we can't get out of Afghanistan unless we keep Putin happy. All "roads" out of Afghanistan lead through Russia. So while ol' Barry might want to threaten this that or the other between Barry not having the stones to do anything, and our strategic need to continue to use our Khazikstan bases to get out of Afghanistan Putin can do whatever he wants.

Game. Set. Match. Putin.

1. i think ukraine has somethings putin wants, but i think this is mostly a test or a diversion for something else

2. i think this is a test of western europe much more than a test of the USA/Obama

3. China's involvement, or lack thereof, will be telling

It's funny how a power struggle in Ukraine, or whatever you want to call it, gives politards on here boners.

How about you clowns actually offer what up the US should be doing instead of sucking Putin's dick while shitting on your President.

What do you think Obama could have done to prevent this? I keep hearing people say that Obama should have been tougher, but how would this toughness have manifested itself in a way that Putin wouldn't have invaded Ukraine?

How has he ever worked in the interest of Russia? Have you not noticed the sorry state of affairs there? The jailing and murder of dissidents, the rampant corruption....it's a kleptocracy. He acts only in his and the oligarchs best interest.

And in regard to Ukraine...he thought he had purchased the prev government only to have that plan explode in his face...now he's in a precarious position. Additionally the ethnic Russians are pretty clear they don't want Russian rule.

There's nothing impressive about invading a country when you know no one is really willing to do anything about it. The only impressive thing is how much of a dick he is.

If we are talking chess then maybe Putin has overplayed his hand. These military moves only incite more resistance to Russia. There is a long game to be played and Russia will find economic consequences down the road for this move.

The Ukraine will eventually become part of the EU and the compromise is no military buildup by the west or Russia inside Ukraine. We already have a treaty in place for this when nuclear weapons were removed back in the 90's.

There is more division in Russia over Putin's interference than many realize. "Game, Set, Match" hardly...

Damn straight.

He knows Barrack Hussein Obama won't put boots on the ground or start a nuclear war like a good chess player would.

Putin is great. Huge fan of his corrupt and tyrannical style. Obozo could learn a thing or two from watching him instead of embarrassing us by not being the world police.

Thought i would share this article "4 Reasons Putin Is Already Losing in Ukraine" - with a few excerpts below:

quote:

At home, this intervention looks to be one of the most unpopular decisions Putin has ever made. The Kremlin’s own pollster released a survey on Monday that showed 73% of Russians reject it. ....Only 15% said yes — hardly a national consensus.

quote:

The economic impact on Russia is already staggering. When markets opened on Monday morning, investors got their first chance to react to the Russian intervention in Ukraine over the weekend, and as a result, the key Russian stock indexes tanked by more than 10%. That amounts to almost $60 billion in stock value wiped out in the course of a day, more than Russia spent preparing for last month’s Winter Olympic Games in Sochi.

quote:

Even Russia’s closest allies want no part of this. The oil-rich state of Kazakhstan, the most important member of every regional alliance Russia has going in the former Soviet space, put out a damning statement on Monday, marking the first time its leaders have ever turned against Russia on such a major strategic issue: “Kazakhstan expresses deep concern over the developments in Ukraine,” the Foreign Ministry said. “Kazakhstan calls on all sides to stop the use of force in the resolution of this situation.”

quote:

Russia’s isolation from the West will deepen dramatically. In June, Putin was planning to welcome the leaders of the G8, a club of western powers (plus Japan), in the Russian resort city of Sochi. But on Sunday, all of them announced they had halted their preparations for attending the summit in protest at Russia’s intervention in Ukraine. So much for Putin’s hard-fought seat at the table with the leaders of the western world.

....but but but Putin knows what hes doing....

OP: I am not so sure that Putin's actions are really in Russia's best interests. He may think so, but, he may be wrong.

The WSJ says Putin has paused, and the troops may be called back.

I don't mean to say this is a certainty, but the power of the coin seems to be stronger than both the pen and sword.

The globalization of everyone's economies causes anyone to pause once the sanctions start getting lined up. That is, anyone with an economy worth a damn will pause. A despot will say frick it and roll tread.

WTF are you talking about? Are you aware of the financial troubles? Easiest way to collapse the USSR. It worked once and it will work again.

ETA: N/M I will leave my ignorant post up for all to witness my hasty response to a bump from many months ago.

It's early, let the taunting commence.

The pressure is building on Vladimir Putin: Russia will be hit by a wave of bankruptcies unless it cuts interest rates very soon, a top financial official warned Monday...

The impact of Western sanctions imposed over Russia's actions in Ukraine has sparked a cash crunch by shutting many companies out of international funding markets.

The United States is back in the driver’s seat of the global economy after 15 years of watching China and emerging markets take the lead.

The world’s biggest economy will expand by 3.2 percent or more this year, its best performance since at least 2005, as an improving job market leads to stepped-up consumer spending, according to economists at JPMorgan Chase & Co., Deutsche Bank and BNP Paribas...

“The U.S. is again the engine of global growth,” said Allen Sinai, chief executive officer of Decision Economics in New York. “The economy is looking stellar and is in its best shape since the 1990s.”

Putin is really putting it to Obama, isn't he?

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov, speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, on Friday warned the West against trying to topple President Vladimir Putin and said that Russians are ready to sacrifice their wealth in Putin's support...

Questions have been raised in Russia and abroad whether the price that ordinary Russians are having to pay for the annexation of Crimea is too high.

"When a Russian feels any foreign pressure, he will never give up his leader," Shuvalov said. "Never. We will survive any hardship in the country — eat less food, use less electricity."

Shuvalov's comments triggered pithy remarks on Russia social media including an opposition activist who posted photos of Shuvalov's Moscow, London and Austria homes to illustrate where the deputy prime minister would experience the hardships he described...

Russia's foreign currency reserves shrank by 2 percent last week alone to $379 billion as the Central Bank sold foreign currency in a bid to prop up the ruble.
