Ukraine is an ally of the US. All of Eastern Europe looks to the US to counter balance Russia.

Because Ukraine is a huge economic and military power grab.
Which is why we've spent billion to subvert Ukrainian politics over the last two decades.
Having a pro western regime in office is huge. Getting Ukraine on the western banking block is even bigger.
Russia's economy is reliant on the pipelines that run through Ukraine. If the west controls Ukraine and can install NATO it's a huge economic and military win as we further isolate Russia.
