Lanny Guinear solved the problem. Give blacks five votes. I still can't believe that Bill Clinton removed his nomination of her for the Supreme Court when he left Joyclyn Elders as Surgeon General after she said: "We need to shif money from cancer research to AIDS research. Cuz cancer comes when you're old and takin' out of Social Security. AIDS comes when you young and puttin' into Social Security." Link please?
Nope. Look it up yourself.
BTW, Elders also advocated for banning cigarettes (which counters her point about SS) and legalizing cocaine (her son was arrested for selling).
I posted on this board that Elders should get her own radio talk show. She was great.

When will blacks ever grow tired of being professional victims? Has that mindset really worked all that well for them?
Mighty broad paint brush you got there.

First they gerrymandered the districts to get more black elected; however, that isn't good enough.
Now we need to make elections decided only by the guy with the most votes to get more minorities included.
In the end they are going to tell us that it won't be fair until minorities are the majority in Congress.

“That 50-percent-plus-one rule was put in in order to negate or minimize opportunity for African-Americans to win the primary,” he said. “It’s a very slick way to dilute the impact of the black vote.”
Or are we just going with assuming all things are "fair" because they are.

Are you admitting that blacks base solely on race? That's the only way their votes get "minimized" due to 50% plus one.

The "primary" is the winnowing down election prior to the "general" election. A majority vote has always been required (in the case of the president, electoral votes).
If mere plurality was all that was necessary, one would just trot out stalking horse candidates to draw from the opponent. Result: marginal officeholders.

I don't know the way it works In SC. I assume their elections are similar to LA's. If you don't win with a 50%+1 the two candidates with the most votes moves on. IMO that's a better system than winner take all less the majority get stuck with a undesirable candidate, a la 1992 presidential election.

So requiring the majority of votes is a dilution of black voting power? Can someone please explain to me how requiring 50%+1 is racist?
If someone is worried that the black candidate won't make the runoff because there are too many black candidates on the ballot, then please explain why black candidates should be relieved of the burden of having to appeal to voters outside the black community.

I suspect no one here know the answer to this - it would require an old SC person.

Ignorant as frick people go the SC to grow up, live there for a few years and you will grasp the concept that the "Civil Rights Act" hasn't been made into law yet. The stars and bars are on the bumpers and windows of cars and displayed proudly. As to his idea the elections for statewide elections are for a handful of positions(governor, lt. governor and US Senator stand out the most in my experience while there.

Clyburn? I thought I recognized that name. He named his daughter after a piece of meat.

Great quote from someone who apparently can't compose a sentence correctly.

Plus you apparently don't know how to identify the 'Stars and Bars' (it isn't the battle flag).

Yeah, just because 95% of them vote the same way is no reason to lump the other 5% in with them.

Everyone could vote for themselves as well and you could win with 2 votes nationally. Any voting model has potential for corruption. Primary voting in a two party system is just what is traditional in the US. You don't think multiparty, first past the post, preference voting have extreme corruption potential? It is simply selection bias to advocate for it because we don't currently do it (in most cases).

Might as well give them the handicap, they don't have to score as well as whites at anything else they do.
