Anything to do this weekend in BR?

I have to be in BR fri-sun. While trying to avoid being shot or stabbed, I would like to entertain my family (no pics) for a few hours sat and sun. Anything worth going out of our way for? And a good place to get a good steak would be helpful.

How old are your kids? What are your general interests and budget?

I will ignore your snide "avoid getting shot" BS (don't be the typical TD "I hate Baton Rouge" arse) and suggest you just bust out the wallet and take them to Ruth's for a steak.
Just don't fall for Stroube's downtown. It is awful and I ate there (friends choice) as recently as Friday.
Couple of Mardi Gras parades downtown Saturday as well.

I would suggest all the museums and galleries Baton Rouge has to offer, but you don't strike me as the cultured type

Wtf happened? I haven't been in about a year, but I heard their chef went to IPO. Has it gotten that bad? It was so damn good.

Red Lobster on Bluebonnet and the Mall of La right around the corner. Maybe top it off with a movie at the Rave.

Without turning this into the F and B Board... It was a shite show. Front of the house was a mess, a waiter literally threw our appetizer onto the table and walked off without saying a word. I stopped a passing Manager and asked if we could possibly have some plates, napkins and silverware to eat. He then sent the waiter BACK TO OUR TABLE TO APOLOGIZE like a grade school kid. It was embarrasing for everyone. Awkward. Steak came out of the back ice cold. Not even warm. Sent it back to grill and it returned overcooked. The bartender made me a Manhattan that had either dry vermouth or something else in it. It's three damn ingredients, get it right. It didn't even resemble a Manhattan. We had to ask for steak knives for main course, etc. It really was bad.
On a side note, we ate at IPO Saturday night and it was fantastic. Met the Head Chef and related the Stroube's story. He just chuckled. Nice guy.

What area of town will you be staying?

As long as you mind your own business, have a little common sense and don't look for trouble, you don't have to worry about being shot or stabbed in B.R. or any other place for that matter.
There are a couple of Mardi Gras parades downtown Friday and Saturday night that are family-friendly. There's also a cool little thing put on Saturday AM by local architects where kids can build a small scale version of their ideal city

As far as steaks go, I'm partial to Doe's Eat Place on Government. I like the place more than Ruth's Chris and it's a little cheaper.

Be careful downtown at the parades. Mind your own business. If you look at someone the wrong way you have a good chance getting in an altercation or even worse getting shot. It's a dangerous dangerous place. BR is out of control.

Shiiiiit. I haven't done it lately, because I'm married and a little more grown up, but I used to walk all the time from my place in Spanish Town, get slap-arse drunk at Red Star or Live After Five, then stagger back home. No one messed with me and I never felt like I was in any danger, even though I was probably swaying down the sidewalk.

Used to do the same thing when I lived in Beauregard Town.
Never had an issue

LSU theater is putting on what seems to be a pretty good play- Stick Fly. I am taking my wife. If the kids are over 12, Im sure they could appreciate it. Plays at LSU are always good.

I know you're just being silly, but this reminded me of last year when they sent in the Lake Charles L'Auberge employees to train the new BR ones, and they all stayed cooped up in their hotel rooms because they were scared they'd get shot just going grab dinner somewhere. We suggested shopping options, dining options, bar options, etc. and they all said no fricking way they were leaving their hotel room because of how dangerous they hear BR is.
