Thanks everyone for the recs.
I thought there would have been 2 or 3 that would have separated themselves from the pack. But there must be a dozen different brands out there.
Look forward to trying some of them as soon as I can make it back that way.

If they have it around you, get some Trace Atkins. It is made around Springhill, LA, used to be called Hightower. I live in south LA now, but when I go back home, I always try to stock up on it.

Savoies andouille...slice, bake, flip bake. Gives a crisp to it. Bam!

Bump
I made beans tonight. They came out great.
Again, I used the Rouses Smoked Sausage and the smoke flavor was very pronounced.
It really gave the dish another dimension. Makes a big difference.

If you're looking for smoked flavor, they are the best for a grocery store. They smoke it at the store.

Just can't get into that place.
Now WF on the other hand. They have in house smoked Tasso in the meat dept. You could also pick up a couple links of their smoke sausage by the BBQ meats.

Teets in Ville Platte. You can order online. Best sausage hands down.

Will have to try this out.
Since the OP, I have tried Savoies smoked sausage and Veron's (Humble, TX) . Savoie's was ok but had almost no smoke flavor. Kind of disappointing. Veron's didn't have a lot of smoke flavor either but was seasoned really good. Not really what I was looking for but very good nonetheless.

If you ever make red beans with the hickory smoked sausage made at Fernwood Grocery in Fernwood, Ms. you will not want anything else. Great smoke flavor. They have been making this sausage for well over 50 years and then sell a lot of it.

Would love to try it. Have family not too far from Fernwood. I also updated the OP with a summary of all the rec's. Amazing that there were 20+ rec's in only 3 pages.
Thanks - can't wait to try some more of them.

Teet's in Ville Platte has great smoked products.. If you're in the VP area, I suggest Paul Fontenot's grocery for smoked meats.. Ham hocks and smoked sausage are some of the best I've tried. Cracklins are off the chain..

i grew up with a cajun mom and french speaking grand ma who never put sausage in the red beans..ham hocks everytime and i still dont put sausage in my redbeans

RBR w/ sausage is a totally different dish then RBR seasoned only with ham (hocks, pickled pork, or ham seasoning).
I like both.
My mom used a hell of a lot of Olive oil and Ham seasoning. Wonderful.
