Goodell at it again... Always fricking shite up

but that's not the issue here. if you want to make extra points harder, do it, but don't change another aspect of the game just to fix one aspect

so because kickers have gotten better, we need to change the game? frick goodell, he's a piece of shite

make it to where the kicker of the extra point has to have been on the field during the TD

please explain how I changed the game with my suggestion? score TD, kick extra point. looks the fricking same to me

The platoon system would actually cut down on injuries and make the extra point all of a sudden a little less predictable, but that's too revolutionary a change that would never be allowed by the NFLPA and obviously isn't desired by the NFL itself.
I'd like to see it, though. I think the sport in its pure form sees players playing on both sides of the ball.

because so many kickers are automatic from 50+

The tension comes from the entire scoring structure. You have to retain the 6+1 and 3 and 2 scoring method. If you take that out, the entire idea of play calling changes to accommodate the value proposition of scoring.

quote:280 lb fullback kicking an extra point. yea, looks exactly the same. Not to mention the practice that would have to go into this for all players off the field, thus meaning players now practice less on non-kicks, thus making the offense incremently worse compared to defense.

and creates a new problem for long field goals.

But look at it this way. NBA players are better shooters than college players are. Check out the 3-point lines. Nothing wrong with doing something similar with NFL kickers. They kick better--no problem making it more of a challenge.

the 280 pound fullback has to kick to extra point? when did I say that?
dumbass, that's the whole point of what goodell is saying.

A little unrelated, but I wish the NFL would go to the wider hashmarks. It always seemed a bit silly for the professional kickers to get easier angles than the college ones.

Goodell is one of those dumbass tinkerers. He has knee jerk reaction to concussions and fricks up the game with a bunch of dumbass rules that absolutely no one likes, then tries to unfrick his frickup with another frickup.
He'll go down as one of the worst commissioners in history.

But very few are proposing to "just make it automatic." most of these suggestions involve some sort of play, an option for easier 2 point conversions, etc.
You are correct if you either just make it an automatic 7 OR just increase the length, then yeah nothing would change and that's good. But that isn't the proposition.

Teams have ALWAYS had the option to go for two.
Only since 1994.
No I mean, they always have that opportunity throughout the game. Not in history. As the game is played now, they can go for 2 whenever they score a touchdown. But risk isn't believed to be worth it, so no one does it.

...any rule change invokes the law of unintended consequences. See KO Clock Rule and Grant Teaff as an example.

First good idea they've had in the past 20 years.
Posted on 1/21/14 at 10:47 am to Rand AlThor
so b/c kickers are really good he wants to dump them?
why not just move the kicker back to like the 15 on the extra point?
then like others have said if you want to go for 2 you get it at the 5.
