I don't understand, every other 3 has the 4 front but the convertible.
I used to get to spend time in the showroom when I had our car serviced, but I didn't extend the service option so now I don't go. I loved checking out all of the new offerings.
My friend recently bought an M6 Gran Coupe. Crazy how awesome and over the top that car is. I say bought, he leased. They talked him out of buying it, and he said even though he knew they'd profit off of it all of the points the salesman were making seemed logical to him. He had the cash in hand, so to speak.

I just priced out a new, lightly optioned 5 series how I would order it. $63,125
535d (turbo diesel) with M sport and LED lighting. No manual transmission available on any 5 I can find, no nonturbo versions either.

My line of thinking may be wrong, but I would definitely lease a $100k plus German car. The way I look at it, let's say you're paying $1500 and put $15,000 down. After 2 years, you've got $51,000 in the car. However, you don't have any negative equity in it either. So say you're talking about an Mercedes S63 that starts at $140,000. Right now, you can buy a low mileage 2 year old one for $88,000 from a dealer ($52,000 less than new). You know the dealer didn't pay $88,000 for that car, so already you're better off leasing, regardless of whether you financed or paid cash. If you financed, you're likely still upside down after 2 years, which makes leasing make even more sense. Plus you don't have the headache of trading the car in or selling it private party.
Obviously this is only for high priced luxury cars, but I could definitely see some situations where leasing makes sense.

That was the selling point. They HAVE to take it back on lease. They straight up told him they wouldn't want to buy a 3 yr old $90k (MSRP was $135k+) car because they have no one who would buy it from them.
Owning a transmission like that out of warranty would be insane as well.

Yea, that's the other reason I'd be OK with leasing a car like that. I don't want to have to do any major repairs to it, because it will likely be very expensive.
One day I will lease a new Porsche 911. It will be sad when the two years are up, but I'll be happy about not having to fix it

i drive a 550i, and always cut the 3-series kids off on the highway. They can shove their 4 cylinder up their arse; I love the V8 in the 550i and the handling is amazing.

I own a M5 and I am seriously considering the new M4... They have gone to a lot of weight savings for this car and the handling should be spectacular. As for others who own the 3series, I separate them in two groups. The drivers and the wannabe's. The 335 is a fantastic driving car. Handling and balance of power is great. There are faster cars for the money but its a great all around car. The other groups are the 328 people. If you are going to buy that car just buy an maxima or accord and save yourself a whole lot of trouble. The other thing BMW has going for them is there are the purist like myself that really enjoy the standard option. My m5 is a 6 speed manual and I will give up a tenth of a second to enjoy shifting. Not that many car manufacturers have perfected the manual sedan.

At the NOLA Motorsports track, I was behind a BMW X6 M in one session. It was a huge crossover type thing with around 550 hp. It was a controlled session with no passing, so I put in 20 minutes riding right behind him. I couldn't believe how well that thing handled on the track. And coming out of the turns into long straights, it had some serious acceleration. At first I was driving very casually, but he started gapping me coming into the straights so I had to actually make an honest effort in my 911 to stay on his tail. I wouldn't want a crossover like that, but it was impressive.

I have driven the Mx5 with the same set up. It does defy gravity and that engine is terrific. Like you said its not for me but I appreciate the engineering that goes into making something handle like that. Especially since it 5000 pounds.

Ain't no 4-banger in mine. I have no doubt the newer v-8s are awesome, but a BMW straight-6 is a classic engine.
