I'm kind of skeptical due to those lists being littered with commercial diets.

Also wary of the ones that push whole grains; physiologically, Americans are more insulin-resistant than ever. Kind of like the "low fat" craze where the industry pushes foods high in sugar & simple carbs.

The best diet is to simply figure out your maintenance calories, eat below that number with majority of calories from protein, and avoid sugar if you can.

I eat kind of loosely Paleo (meat, veggies, fruits, some dairy). I mostly cut out bread, pasta, etc.

I don't really see how this would be bad for you. Then again, I'm not one of those people trying to re-create dishes to be Paleo. And I cheat on the weekends.

I agree with you guys. I'm not hardcore Paleo at all but I do eat mostly Paleo every evening. I'm on a meal plan that sends you recipes. Basically all your ingredients are just fresh things that aren't processed. Lots of veggies, lean meat, and making what I think are smart substitutions.

Like cooking with olive oil rather then cooking oil, flavoring with real spices, or using Almond meal rather then bread crumbs for breading.

As with anything, there are hardcore people that are crazy about it, but I don't see any issue with making better decisions about how you cook and what ingredients you use.
