You are way over-thinking this. Get the bigger TV. I had a 46 in my living room and moved up to a 55. After ten minutes, I was trying to figure out how I ever survived with the 46(which is now in my bedroom).

I guess what you're saying is that taking up a larger portion of your field of view (even with a blurrier image) provides a better brain image than a very detailed smaller portion.
