Mett vs Clemson, AJ vs IOWA

Clemson game with a whole years playing time plus 3 years in college total, plus a cannon arm, plus inside a dome with perfect conditions, plus Clemson's "defense"
14/23 120yds 1 td 1 int, 6 rush -41 yds
Jennings against a top 10 defense (6th nationally in pass defense: thanks MrWiseguy) with no prior playing time but a 99 yard drive and one year of college. Not a great arm (yet), with rainy, slippery conditions, with a gameplan tailored to running the ball thus handicapping the QB early (see Mett vs UF for an example)
7/19 82yds 1 int, 5 rush -31 yds
This is not a post ragging on Mett and it's definitely not a post propping up AJ, it's a post stating again for the, IDK how many times, this game meant nothing in the grand scheme of said player's career. There is definitely going to be competition as it would have been in the Spring/Fall just with AJ having a leg up early. People thinking that the game changed that position are assuredly mistaken.

Good post imo but nothin will stop the "who starts at qb next season" threads..

mett wasn't great in 2012.. with cam's coaching he became a really good qb
let's hope cam can do the same with jennings

Both these games were before Cam had off season to work with them...we saw what it did for Mett this year... now give him a chance to do the same with AJ

Well let's see...who was the OC in that game? Our play calling was horrible. Our O-Line was horrible, anemic really.
This year we have a great OC, healthy and much improved O-Line, play calling improved tenfold.
Lots of sacks in both games. But the Clemson game we had a quarterback with no mobility and this one we have a qb with a ton of mobility that took sack after sack.

That is where I hoped for more. He had one play where he stopped just shy of the line and made a play. However, the rest if the game he wouldn't move around. That is what will get better with more game action.

I think it deserves it's own thread for my sake and others who have almost completely threw AJ by the wayside and clung to both Harris and Rettig as taking him over simply based on one of the worst possible situations for a freshman QB with barely any prior game playing experiences.
Honestly, I don't see Harris or Rettig beating him out even if they have better velocity on their throws. I'm still on the thought that from all the stuff I've read about him and seen and heard from the coaches and the Spring game and practices, that we have a guy who's gonna put up numbers like gangbusters next year.

The play calling in that game relied on Mett's arm and he failed to complete a 2 yard pass that would have sealed the game. He also STARTED THE WHOLE YEAR and this was against Clemson's defense and he was a junior who at one time learned at QB under Richt. Perfect weather conditions too, but I agree that pass blocking was bad. Hill averaged 10 ypc and 2 TDs on 12 atts though so those were the same.

It's his first start ever and it was probably told to him that he shouldn't run (possibly because the want to RS Rettig and idk about Rivers). He is still a young guy so it's to be expected.

I think he puts up numbers more along the line of Mett last yr (with a few more TD passes hopefully) or Jordan in 09. betting that it takes a yr for he and his new WRs to grow into their roles. in 2015, we should be poised to make a run.

Or Rettig,
Or Harris.
Or rivers.
I don't care who starter next year is.
Not sure why some of you do.

we can all see through your agenda.
the coaches will play the QB who they feel will give the team the best chance to win

Mett should have been 14/21 vs Clemson. I'll go to my grave wondering why Les didn't feed Jeremy Hill twice on 2nd and 2 on our last drive. Why o why???

What agenda is that?
Is it The fact that I don't have my mouth securely fastened to one if these qbs and ck and balls?
Especially after a total of 4.1 quarters between the 4?
I really thought you were smarter than that.
Guess not.

You should throw into the OP that Iowa is ranked sixth nationally in passing yards allowed - for your argument.
Posted on 1/5/14 at 6:35 pm to MrWiseGuy
I don't really have an argument other than qb position for LSU in 2014 is wide open.

what burned me up about jennings was that he didnt run when he could have. 3 secs, no one is open (as far as u can tell) we need a first, run mfer.

Seemed like the coaches didn't want him running
He was very hesitant to take off running
