Conference Rival TCU not only bought all 17,500 tickets in 2009 but asked for an additional 10,000 more in 2009.
And they were playing a team they had already beaten the year before as well.
Something to keep in mind when discussing conference realignment.

Funny thing is that it's a really good matchup. It's just that if I'm a Baylor fan, there's no way this game will top winning the conference against UT in my home stadium's swan song.

I don't mean this as a jab, but I'm sure the Baylor guys will take it that way, but they don't fill up their own stadium. What makes you think they are gonna travel and fill up a larger one.

LOL don't care Big 12 Champs bitches. Not surprising for a school with an undergrad of 12,500 and only 100,000 living alumni.
FWIW, BCS bowl tickets are rip off. You could get much much better seats for a lot less on stubhub.
With that being said, I bought my 4 through Baylor. INB4 goldennugget (TCU employee) bashes Baylor/Ahmad Dixon/Art Briles, etc.
INB4 Aggy comes in making fun of Baylor for being at a BCS bowl and not selling tickets (something they have never been too).
This excuse holds no water. TCU took 28k to the Fiesta Bowl in 2009. Asked for 10k additional tickets and that was against an opponent TCU had already played and beaten in a bowl game the year before

What's the worst performance by a BCS team with regards to ticket sales?
UCONN in the Fiesta Bowl about 3-4 years ago comes to mind, though Wake Forest in the Orange Bowl probably isn't much better.
At least Wake's excuse is that they have one of the smallest enrollments and alumni bases in FBS.

Then explain conference rival TCU bringing 28k to the game the year before and selling out their alottment, in a much worse economy and against a familiar opponent? TCU has an even smaller enrollment and alumni base as well.

If Baylor doesn't travel for a huge bowl like this, expect them to end up getting shite bowls from the Big 12 for the next few years.
Teams who have a reputation for traveling well, like Oklahoma and Texas, tend to get preference from the various bowls to teams who don't travel well.
It's not like Baylor's reputation for crappy fan support is new, either. They're well known within the Big 12 for travelling poorly to anywhere further than College Station.

Exactly, this will hurt them in the future
It's why TCU was the first of five 7-5 teams from the Big 12 selected during Big 12 bowl selection last year, because their previous travelling fanbase had done well in Glendale and Pasadena.

Bowls pick based on attendance, not conference finish
They will be passed over by inferior teams. What if Baylor goes 11-1 or 10-2 like this year and are up for a BCS bid and gets passed over by a 9-3 Big 10 team? Or goes 10-2 and gets passed over by the Cotton Bowl for 8-4 Oklahoma.
Last year 5 teams finished 7-5 in the Big 12. Baylor, Texas Tech, WVU, TCU, and Oklahoma State.
TCU got picked first out of those 5 despite having the smallest enrollment, because they have had good attendance in past bowl games regardless of location or opponent.

Won't be a problem since we will be in the 4 team playoff. jk

Ok. What happens then?
If they win the Big 12, then nothing. They get whatever bowl the Big 12 ties into, such as the playoff or the Sugar Bowl.
If they don't win the Big 12, it depends on the conference's rules with regards to bowl selections.
An inability to sell a bunch of tickets to the Fiesta Bowl when they have a Top 10 team means that the Cotton Bowl, Alamo Bowl, etc., would likely want other teams instead of them when picking from them in other seasons.
They'd probably end up in the Holiday Bowl or Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl and end up traveling poorly for those, too, as the Holiday Bowl is in San Diego while the BWW Bowl is in Tempe, like the Fiesta Bowl.

Apparently Ohio State only has 7,000 thus far

I think that this will be a growing trend as far as bowl attendance. The playoff games will be massive successes, and more and more people will adopt the mindset "why would I care that much about a consolation game" (which currently is exactly what all but one of them are - consolation games).
