So what does Kirby do?

The longer we hear nada the more I believe the extension isn't signed and the UT rumors may be true. So what happens to Kirby in all this? I mean it is the plan to let him be the HC in waiting ala Jimbo. Ironic Bama may lure Jimbo if Saban bolts.
Does Kirby go with Nick to UT to become the next HC at UT or take his chances with Bama. If Bama gets a new HC I would imagine his job is safe as DC.

If nick left... big if... I think kirby and dabo are the two they go to immediately as time would be of the essence due to recruiting.

If Saban leaves, Kirby stays to be HC.

I sure would feel better if Kirby Smart was at least a HC for a liitle bit before becoming Bama's HC. It's just different when your actually the head honcho. You don't learn everything that's needed until you do it yourself because experience is priceless. Bama would be best hiring a proven HC than hiring an experienced assistant. Nothing personal to Kirby and no matter what happens. Smart needs to take a HC position this off-season so he grows has a coach. If Saban stays and Smart handles himself well on his own. I'd be happy with Smart has Bama's HC when Saban retires.
At the same time. No one knows Saban's process better than Smart does and he has relationship with recruiting too. Tough situation but it would be important to have immediate success if Smart took over.

One year at Arkansas St seems to be the going thing.

Smart must not be a very attractive HC candidate. He has interviewed for multiple HC jobs over the past few years and always been rejected

With the high profile of Saban, they could lure another big name. Would they consider others? Would they take Kirby over Jimbo, or any other HC out there? Kirby would have got the gig if Saban stays and goes out on his on terms. He gets to name his replacement and all. If Saban abandons ship then all beats off for Kirby. He is going to have to beat out a line of existing big name HCs. I just don't see that happening.

I'd hate to fill Saban's shoes
Worst job opportunity for a newbie IMHO.
Expectations from fans are too high even for Saban himself...
so a new coach's skin better be made of leather..
Certainly, the program is stock piled with talent..
winning 10 games should be a walk in the park...
but it's championship or bust...

It'sso easy to coach at Bama, Houston Nutt could do it.

I don't understand the rationale that Kirby should be a HC elsewhere first. Jimbo wasn't the top dog anywhere and that's working out well at FSU. same thing with Stoops and Oklahoma. I think a lot of people remember the clusterfrick that was Mike DuBose and that makes them wary of Kirby. But that's apples and oranges. No way Kirby could have lasted this long around such a rigid taskmaster as Saban if he didn't have something going for him. As far to him not being an attractive candidate or else he would already have been selected head coach somewhere else, he is making great money at the top program in the country and working alongside the greatest coach of our lifetime. I just believe he is in a position to wait in the right opportunity and there hasn't been one that came along yet that he felt compelled to take.

We all know that its nicks defense... I would be a little worried promoting him to HC.

Bama will not promote Kirby. Muschamp has proven that being a DC for Saban doesn't translate to head coaching. When you're ego is as big as Bama you get another HC. Dabo makes since because he played there but I think they go bigger.

Or does Saban steal Chavis for $2 mill?

Muschamp was a worst dc than Smart is, At least Smart could beat UGA on a consistent basis.

Kirby is going to a heck of a HC one day, but it will take him a few years as HC to become a great coach. Would Bama fans be patient enough for him to grow into the job? Would LSU fans? Or any top program? That is why he needs to go to a smaller school first. Jimbo has gotten better every year, but it took him a while to do it.

Tim Brandao on Jordy's show this morning mentioned a Sexton three way sending Jimbo to Texas and Smart to Fla St.

Jimbo ain't going anywhere but the Rose bowl

Nobody wants chavis. He quit two years ago and is just piling up paychecks

I believe He will be a head coach somewhere next year, as the Dominos fall.
