As a Steelers fan, I have no issue with the fine. I wouldn't scream bloody murder at a one game suspension either. Rooneys don't exactly like this kind of negative light shined on their team, they really don't run a "classless organization" despite what some on the MSB may think.

Goodell likes Bill Bellicheck and the "Patriots way"
Steelers should want to lose a draft pick - the Pats have gone 83-23 (78.3%) in the regular season since the Spygate game, best in the NFL. They were 75-37 (67.0%) under Belichick prior to that game. Clearly, Bellichick was relying on the taping procedure to be able to win games.

What was Tomlin thinking?

They also need to fine the referee who missed the call.

Watch the replay of Tomlin closely. He's not looking at the jumbo tron. He's looking out of the corner of his eye, waiting for the ball carrier to come by.

He said he always watches return plays on the jumbotron and that he didn't realize how close he was to the field.
Not many are believing that one. Why would he have his feet perfectly planted as close as he could to the field?
How would he know Jones would run directly 'near' the spot he was standing the entire time?.
Get over it .
The man was simply focused on the big screen until he realized the play was coming right at him.
People routinely wander too close to the field.

Of course he didn't know that the player would run RIGHT next to him. The point is he prepared as if it would happen, it did, and he deserves every bit of what the NFL throws at him.

A little extreme, no? It didn't even effect the play
As a huge Saints fan, no. Not extreme in any way. A Head coach shouldn't act like a moron from the stands.

He should be suspsended for a game or two. That was my first thought after seeing the replay of it.
Coaches can't interfere with the game, or even attempt to. It's against the rules, and in this case it was rather blatant.
Fine him, suspend him, but don't touch the draft picks. That's a punishment that doesn't fit the crime.

2 Game Suspension $200,000 fine
This would be more appropriate than a draft pick. Goodell is reaching on this.

This is crazy. So they will fine him more for doing that than the head hunters like Merriweather and Goldson that the league is trying to stop.

It's a fricking coach dude.
He might as well have tripped him because he potentially stopped a touchdown. The huge fine and suspension are warranted.
