He's a good player, but LOL at him being the NFL's highest paid defender.
I think Mario Williams and Tamba Hali are the highest paid defenders right now... PP7 is worth that kind of money comparatively IMO

Damn I would not have guessed Mario.

I like PP7 but LOL at this best defender nonsense. His best defensive year wasn't even better than Jenoris Jenkins' rookie season last year.
The guy is athletic but Prime Revis money...nah

could see him earn more than $50 million guaranteed
Any GM that gives him 50 million guaranteed should be fired on the spot. No cornerback is worth that much. You can find good corners for much less. Any smart franchise would use that money to invest in a good QB.

Grant Hill didn't have an agent for his highest paid years. He used attorneys for individual negotiations and saved a lot of money.
he knew he was gonna get a max NBA deal, there's not much to negotiate there. I think Ray Allen was one of the first guys to do that. NFL deals are a bit different.

So who would do all the stuff that the agent does for the player?
A lawyer.

Scott Boras says hello
An agent's job is to keep himself and other agents employed. They serve no other purpose to the professional athlete that an attorney/financial advisor can serve for a fraction of the cost.

Agents make their money in business development (endorsement deals) and damage control

Why did he fire him then?

This makes me wonder how much JJ Watt will now get on his new contract. :yikes:

lol
If it wasn't for Agents, these half wits would get taken to the woodshed by the Gm's and Owners.

Some of them do need agents...guys that are smart/have the right degrees/went to a good school probably need them less.
Probably not a good idea for people like Jamarcus Russell or Tyrann Mathieu to work their own contracts. But guys like Ryan Fitzpatrick or Andrew luck...I imagine paying agents to them is more of a convenience than a necessity.

The perfect situation is that of The Rock, Dwayne Johnson. His wife has an MBA and is on the board of a 'wealth management' firm. She is his agent.

That's why you hire an attorney to do your negotiations for you for a much much lower fee.
