Top 2015 PG Malik Newman trying to make trip to LSU this weekend

malik newman ?@iammaliknewman 20m
Might take that LSU trip this weekend
The 6'3" PG/Combo guard is the #1 player in the country. He is from Jackson, MS.
Likely going to UK, but if Coach Jones could get him to play with Ben Simmons, that would be a deadly combo.

At least we can sell him Ben Simmons in the class already. Try to build a super class.
But like you said, it's not likely. However, getting guys on campus means anything can happen.

Yeah pretty much sell him on Ben Simmons and creating that big class. We need to get into the tourney and maybe win a game or two I think for some more national exposure to sell some of these kids. Headed in that direction so hopefully we make the big step of being a top flight program in a few years.

We've already made that step. You'll see next week in Orlando when Martin is back and we have stopped the Quarterman experiment and Hickey starts! When these two things happen we are gonna be a really good team!

Yeah I haven't had the pleasure of actually seeing Martin play at LSU yet. Saw his highlights. Him, Mickey, JOB, Hickey, and Stringer are going to WRECK SHOP.

There's a difference between being a good team and a good program.
Programs take time and LSU is building one. It takes a few classes. It takes recognition by high schoolers that it's a "cool" place to go. LSU is on it's way, but to become top flight there is still work to be done. Robinson next year, Simmons in 2015, and hopefully a couple other elite players could make LSU cool again.

Yeah I agree with you about building a good program but as far as this year's team goes I think we have all the potential to be really good which makes us desirable to recruits which builds a good program for years to come. I'm pumped up about LSU basketball man!

Not to mention we are in a good place with Elijah Thomas. I don't think Newman heads here but get them on campus and you never know what can happen

What are the chances we land Elijah Thomas or Newman?

Stringer and JOBIII may know this kid. They are both from Mississippi and played on the Jackson AAU team.
Malik Newman plus Simmons and Robinson

Having Simmons committed helps with both, I am sure.

Just drawing enough interest from Malik speaks volumes about the direction of the program IMO.

Just the fact that these top tier players are even considering a visit makes me &

This is such great news. If anything it's great publicity for the basketball recruiting world that Malik Newman is in town for the game.
I remember asking the board if Robert Kirby could bring him in for us to complement Simmons and the consensus was a hell no. one can wonder what could have been...
Still
Robinson
Thomas
Simmons
Quarterman
Gray
....let m continue to dream

JJ needs to introduce him to Chris Jackson/Abdul-Rauf.
quote:
Former two-time All-American and SEC Player of the Year Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf made a surprise appearance on the LSU campus last weekend, reuniting him with a former teammate and former LSU head coach Dale Brown and present LSU head Coach Johnny Jones.
Abdul-Rauf, who played at LSU under the name Chris Jackson in the 1988-89 and 1989-90 seasons, had called to touch base with former teammate Stanley Roberts, who is working on the LSU campus while finishing up his degree work. The Gulfport, Miss., native was on his way through Louisiana to take three of his boys to a basketball camp in Texas.
Roberts was able to set up a meeting at the athletic department with Brown, Jones and Senior Associate AD Bo Bahnsen and the player who still holds the NCAA record for scoring average for a freshman at 30.2 points a game. The group toured the athletic offices, built since Abdul-Rauf left, as well as the new practice facility (which features several pictures from his playing days) and the updated Maravich Assembly Center.
Waiting for Abdul-Rauf, who is still active in pro basketball playing this past year in Japan, was his jersey and award for being a member of LSU’s 16-member All-Century team that was named in 2009 on the anniversary of LSU’s first basketball game.
"It was great to see Mahmoud and to spend some time with him here on LSU’s campus,” said Jones, who was an assistant under Coach Brown when Abdul-Rauf played at LSU. "He was overly impressed with the new facilities from the practice areas to the upgrade of the PMAC, along with our offices. He was glad he stopped by because it gave his children who were with him the opportunity to see the campus and the facilities where he played and see a lot of the memorabilia that is on display.
