So you're saying he's purposefully ignoring it? He had great FT shooting teams at UNT.
I hope you are right, I just haven't seen it at LSU yet. 60% last year and 60% this year and missing the front ends of one and ones.

Dude... TWO GAMES

Trent Johnson could coach defense but was apparently lazy or did not care when it came to recruiting.
Trent Johnson's team just slowed the game down. Doesn't necessarily mean good defense.
The two teams we have played play very fast, open games. Most people were impressed with our defense in the UMASS game and I think we played even better in the Northwestern St game.
I think saying our defense is bad is truly a mistake at this point.

For all of those talking about the defense comments. All I am saying is defense is about moving your feet and denying your man the ball on the inside. Blocked shots and steals are about athletic ability. I did not see the UMASS game but the NW St. game was won on rebounds and rebounds are very important and are partly due to good coaching.
The FT shooting is the most concerning. If we need a three pointer late in the game, I believe it is going to be hard to achieve. The opposing coach will tell his team to foul Stringer and put him on the line for three FT.

i hated his man defensive principles. we also ran some of the worst 2-3 zone i've ever seen in my life. i remember when we went to italy and kicked all those italian stiff's asses during the summer and heard about the new pressure sets and halfcourt wrinkles we were working on only for trent ball to continue the upcoming season.

I understand some of what you're trying to say, you just have some bad examples. LINK
Stringer has averaged over 70% at the line all four years (and is 78% this year).

Good link about Stringer's FT percentage. I must have confused his FT percentage with one of the other under 6 foot guards over the past several seasons (not Hickey).
Just concerns. All in all I think JJ is taking us to the next level (mid-tier) well but I am not sure that he can take us to the top tier.

So you watched 1 game, and conclude that JJ sucks at coaching defense and FTs? Even though he had great FT shooting teams at UNT and was top 50 in defensive efficiency?

Chaz Williams is one of the best PGs LSU will play all year and NSU runs the floor a ton, which leads to that. It's not like NSU was able to just drive at will though. If anything, I was very proud of the defense last night
I'm with you.
Early in the game I was thinking our guards were letting Williams through too easily.
But when I watched more carefully, Hickey was on Williams all the time, trying to get in front of him, trying to disrupt or steal. He succeeded a lot, but NSU's other offensive players set some great screens, and bumped Anthony off the ball, or blocked his lane. That's what happens when you play an experienced offense, especially ones that run like NSU, it's hard for an inexperienced team to get back that fast and get set.
I've seen them practice this, but it's not the same as playing a team you don't know.

and if you do not know how to move your feet against a team that is not going to make the tournament you won't move your feet against a tournament team.
First, I think that UMass and NWs could well be tournament bound, or at the very least NIT.
Second, JJ has been emphasizing in practice about moving their feet and it doesn't come overnight to kids who have been used to using hands, arms etc. Some of our players have bad habits that might take a while to work out.

Only negative from game 1 was no one in the crowd understanding what they should do when seven nation army plays prior to introducing the starters.
C'mon man. Chant, not clap.
