Just starting to get into Genesis...

I've given Selling England by the Pound 4-5 listens to now, and I finally get it. I've liked a lot of Gabriel's solo stuff, but never really listened to Genesis.
I've always been a Yes, ELP, and King Crimson fan, but never really gave Genesis a try. From just the little amount of time I've put into it, I'd say Selling England by the Pound might be a better piece of music than almost anything those other groups put out (outside of King Crimson, the kings of prog/art rock)
Anyway, I was just wondering if any of the Genesis fans on here could tell me where to go next. I downloaded the discography yesterday, and I'm probably going to give The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway a shot, but was wondering what else I need to listen to by them

Foxtrot & Nursery Cryme are great early Genesis w/ Gabriel records.
I also like The Genesis of Genesis, even earlier stuff, and Trespass.
Now when I listen to Genesis, the post-Gabriel stuff sounds pretty thin.

I'm assuming your more into Gabriel/Genesis than Collins/Genesis?
I like the album Duke, but Selling England is a great album as well

The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway is fantastic album.
The post-Gabriel Genesis work sucks.

I've just listened to the Gabriel/Genesis stuff first, just cause I'd read about Selling England being a good album. I'm open to any of their stuff

I'm more of Collins guy, so their 80's stuff is what I really enjoy. The self titled album from 83 has "Just a job to do" which is one of my favorites. Invisible Touch, which came out in 86, is also a good album, it has "Land of Confusion" and "In Too Deep" on it

I thought about posting that, but figured it was too easy
Don't just stare at it, eat it

This wont be popular, but my favorite genesis album is A Trick of The Tail

Got 2-3 songs left still, but so far Squonk is the jam. Roberry, Assault and Battery is a good one too

My parents used to play it all the time at the lake. Brings back good memories.

We made a receiver shut down two nights ago playing this. I get the pre Collins purists, but the self titled "Shapes" album is unreal. Home By the Sea 1&2 and I'ts Gonna Get Better are some of Tony Bank's most brilliant work and Collins just sang & played his hair off. Not too many rivals of that tom sound. I would totally recommend this record.

I remember watching the behind the music on Genesis when I was younger so I started listening to all their stuff but always gravitated towards the Collins' Genesis and just loved his solo stuff. As a young kid really didn't like the Gabriel's Genesis not really my cup of tea.

unfortunately his solo stuff really took the shine off of the later Genesis work for me, but at the time I really got into Abacab...
