Look, Nick started getting cabin fever at LSU after 2003. I have to imagine that he's getting terribly bored with maintaining Bama as opposed to trying to build something up. There is nowhere else for Bama to go from here. I think UT is more in play than most people actually believe.

And the NFL was sniffing around. He knew he wanted to take a shot at it. If he wouldn't have gone, it would have bugged him for the rest of his life. He got his shot, didn't work out as well as he had hoped and Alabama happened to be available. If Ohio St, USC, Michigan, notre dame or a similarly high profile school been looking for a coach then he'd be there instead.

As an Alabama fan I hate the idea of him leaving. That being said, I don't think anyone can accurately tell if he's staying or going. When it comes to money, I gotta believe the alumni and UoA will try to match anything Texas would offer. The fact is, he may well want that new challenge of building up another team.

He's also said his wife and family are happy where they are, and that that will make his final decision. Every year this will be a topic, and I'm more than a little shocked at how convenient this article that's been spread just happened to pop up this week, prior to this big game.

He may well leave Alabama. He may well go to Texas. Only time will tell.
