So why did Saul have to go into hiding with a new identity and everything?
Been wondering that myself. Would the cops have even known to go after him? Huell only talked to Hank I thought. Maybe Skyler said something?

i think its because mike, all his henchmen, and his other lawyer were dead. when huell disappeared saul probably felt he was next. also the fact that hank/dea were closing in on walt was added pressure.
additionally, i dont like the idea of this spin off. if we want to see more of saul, mike, huell and a little jesse/walt, why not just keep BB going?

well, cause some of these guys are dead.

I would love for the series to incorporate a flash forward to Saul Managing a fast food joint in Nebraska .
Personally I wonder if that wouldn't be a better series. I'd love to watch Saul rebuilding his life with a new identity. Eventually I don't think he'd be able to resist the urge to return to what he was doing before.

Not sure how they could have Jesse and Walt cameos if it's set before the events of BB -- Saul had never met either of them prior to it.
They don't have to interact with Saul to have cameos in a prequel. It could be something a simple as Jesse talking with one of Saul's clients or Walt walking through a grocery store where Saul is shopping. I doubt either of them would have meaningful roles in any episode.

This photo makes me ponder how difficult it must be for Lavell Crawford to wipe his arse.

A Saul prequel would also go into how he came to know Gus, which could also clue everyone in on Gus' past.

Maybe this is a little goofy, but yeah I thought it would be cool to do the series as if, for lack of a better term, he has broken good, has a wife, kids etc and something makes him think back or have to tell the story of his life to someone?
Like maybe the end of the series is he's gotten diagnosed with terminal long cancer, is dying and this is his confession....but they just think its the drugs making it all up?

He could have him run into Walt when Walt was an employee of the car wash.
