It depends on the characters.

For example, I hated the "Butters's Very Own Episode" one, while most people loved it. But that's because I love Butters as a small, ancillary character (one exception being the Butters's Bottom Bitch" episode, which I thought was great).

The goth/vamp kids are better as small characters, but I thought the carried this episode well enough.
