TubA, does your poll factor in location of the game?
No.
It might make sense to include a home field advantage .... but there aren't enough samples to get accurate numbers. Each team has a wildly different advantage at home from every other team, so each team would have to have its own HFA - and each game may have a differing HFA than the other (LSU v Bama for instance seems to have negative HFA for whoever is at home)
Also, including HFA would challenge the notion that the only thing matters is the win or the loss.

Doesn't it affect the SOS if you're basing it only off of record?
By basing "only off record" I don't mean SOS isn't considered. SOS is in fact implicit in the formula used to calculate the ratings. what I mean is the only information the algorithm needs, for each team, the list of teams they played and the game result for each game.

Shouldn't your rankings be affected by the home records of each team AND how many home games they have left?

Where Harvard at? Not legit. (Still)

UW-Whitewater dropped out of the rankings after winning 55-13?

It's flawed because it's assuming that different levels of football are synonymous.
Let's say a team is 5-0 and they've played 5 teams who all have winning records but they have winning records against FCS teams.
Another team is 5-0 and they've played 5 teams who all have winning records against mid-level FBS teams.
Would your formula rate them pretty closely?

You're assuming that the level classification of a team can actually influence their playing ability. If you took the LSU TIgers and classified them Div III they'd still be able to beat Florida.

C is a subset of C++. If you try to compile a C code with a C++ compiler you will find no problems.

Seriously, is this a joke? It is in C. It is also in C++. Every single element of C is also part of C++.
My fricking lord you're impossible to deal with.

Well being that there are scholarship limits and differences i'd say yes it does influence the quanity of quality players, then yeah.. I'd say it influences them. And why do you try to treat everything is in a vacuum when it isn't? Like HFA, Div of opponent etc etc.

if you classified LSU as D3 they wouldn't have the same players dumbass

So you're saying if LSU played the same schedule and had the same results but had a Div III by their name, they would be less deserving.
Sorry, that makes no sense to me.

The division of the opponent is absolutely irrelevant. Only their on field results matter.
HFA is a problem. I've addressed this. See above.

No shite Sherlock. You're missing the point. You don't get rewarded or punished because of the division you play in, you get rewarded or punished based solely on the results of your games and the results of your opponents games and the results of your opponents opponents games...

The point is that beating a mediocre FCS school is much different than beating a mediocre FBS school and your formula should account for that.

quote:OK. Maybe we should account for the quality of the uniforms, as well. The better teams tend to have the better quality uniforms. So obviously you should get more points for beating a team with better uniforms, right?

A victory over an FCS school should hold a weight of something around .60 or something similar.
