Tom Selleck could have been Indiana Jones
Would have been interesting, although its hard to imagine anyone in that role other than Ford.

Keanu Reeves was about the 5th or 6th choice to play Neo in the Matrix. Will Smith and several others all turned it down
Keanu worked out pretty good. I can only imagine how difficult it was to read that screenplay.

Burt Reynolds turned down Die Hard and James Bond
Thank god.

Liam Neeson turned Bond in the 90's b/c he didn't want to do action films.
I could've seen Liam Neeson as Bond in the 90's.

But, apparently the $10 million was not the final offer. Celebrity NetWorth reports that Connery was also offered 15% of the gross for all three LORD OF THE RINGS movies. Those films have grossed three billion dollars to date.

Not so much turning down a role, but fate preventing her from keeping the role and then her career going to shite afterwards.
Sean Young as Vicki Vale in Batman. She broke her leg training on a horse for a scene that never made to film, and Kim Basinger was brought in to replace her.

Brad Pitt turned down the role of Tommy in Shawshank. Would've been better on his resume than Cool World.

He didn't have a choice did he? He was under contract for Magnum PI and couldn't get out of it.

I can't remember exactly, but didn't Burt Reynolds turn down the part of Han Solo?

Steve Young turned down Brett Favre's part in Something About Mary due to his Mormon beliefs. I doubt his W-2 was negatively affected.

a buddy of mine was casting for a role as "random inmate showering" in some movie that i dont know the name of that was being filmed in New Orleans
he told me it would be me, naked, showering, showing only my arse
i told him i wasnt interested because i had law school finals the week he wanted me there
that wouldve launched my career
now im just a stupid attorney

Will smith also turned down The Matrix for Wild Wild West.
Also i read somewhere Tommy Lee Jones was offered either a lump sum or a % of the revenue for Men In Black and he chose the lump sum which was a multi hundred million dollar mistake. He said something to the effect that everyone thought the movie would flop so he took the guaranteed money.

Yep. And Harrison Ford was Spielberg's first choice for the role anyway. Lucas was initially reluctant because he didn't want it to look like he was pulling a Scorsese and casting him in every movie he was involved with.

Lacey Chabert dropping the role of Meg Griffin after season 1 of Family Guy
Will Smith is a below par actor and would have been terrible as Django

I don't know if that was entirely her decision.

i heard he was doing carpentry work at lucas's house and thats how he was discovered
but either way, its true that he was just a carpenter when he was discovered

Also she no doubt lost some money but that's not exactly a star making role.

Harrison Ford had acted in a Lucas film before. He had a small but entertaining role in 1973's American Graffiti. Lucas brought Ford to his house to assist in screen testing potential actors for Star Wars. He liked him so much that he decided to cast him as Han Solo and the rest is history.
