I think competition would be to tough this year for Mett.
Manziel defending champ
Mariota tearing it up out west
I haven't seen a top notch Big 12 (maybe Seastrunk but they've played no one) or Big 10 candidate yet (but you do have Urban Meyer to lobby).
Bridegwater but that schedule will make it tough for him to win.
ACC has the newbie in Winston with a chance for some big wins and Clemson has Boyd.
SEC has the legacy award in McCarron for the 4 year body of work.

1. Tajh Boyd, QB Clemson (20th in PE)
2. Marcus Mariota, QB Oregon (21st in PE)
3. Aaron Murray, QB Georgia (4th in PE)
4. Johnny Manziel, QB Texas A&M (5th in PE)
5. AJ McCarron, QB Alabama (43rd in PE)
6. Braxton Miller, QB Ohio State (NOT RANKED IN TOP 50)
7. Teddy Bridgewater, QB Louisville (3rd in PE)
8. Jameis Winston, QB Florida State (2nd in PE)
9. Zach Mettenberger, QB LSU (6th in PE)
10. Bryce Petty, QB Baylor (1st in PE)
Per the article, this is the list of QBs and how they are ranked. In ( ) is the passing efficiency that i pulled from the net. YES YES, there are more things that make the case for someone for the Heisman but PE should be in the top 2. Plus wins of who and where they where ranked, etc.
I'm not saying ZM can't win, i'm just stating that he's better than a couple others that have been on this list since day one. Give 'em hell ZM because your fans at TD will give you hell regardless!!

Good for ZM, but why is the Heisman considered important? Previous winners usually do not usually succeed at the next level, the award itself does not come with any money, and it usually goes to a quarterback or running back from a major program with a high ranking rather than to the best player in the game. It, like most Hall of Fame votes, is something hotly debated by sports writers because they confer the award. It is a worthless thing that makes sports writers feel important but which others should ignore.

Why own a Ferrari? They get horrible gas mileage, they bottom out going over curbs and speed bumps and have no trunk space....
Because it's very cool and very prestigious. Winning a Heisman trophy, much like owning a Ferrari, means that you are very successful and have succeeded in your endeavors, you are probably rich, and you are part of a very exclusive and elite group. Plus it's very cool. So don't act like you don't understand why people value the Heisman trophy. It's generally the highest honor a college football player can achieve

He needed to win this game on that final drive to have a chance
Not really.
Win out and the Heisman story sets up perfectly.

I thought the Rant had boycotted SI.

The converse of this is that those who do not win the Heisman are less cool and are not part of an exclusive or elite group even though they might be vastly superior at their craft of playing football to the winner. Ceding the importance of the Heisman puts your happiness into the hands of sports writers who don't know you, don't care about you and are too interested in compelling story lines. I don't think it would be wise for a young man to give such people or awards a second thought.

Zach may end up a top 3 if we win out but JFF, Boyd, and Mariota get more pub than Zach. Wish he would win though, would be great for recruiting.

Murray’s completion percentage against LSU was a season-low
Damn, as an LSU fan watching that game, it didn't seem like he missed very many.

Our season will be complete if Mettenberger wins the Heisman. The publicity for LSU could be awesome!! This is what we need.

Mett is getting some SI love...

says here that he's now the #16 draft prospect, too. In other words, middle of 1st round.
I think the Georgia game really made his future bright; it was the game of the week and an instant classic. I doubt people (outside of here) really care that his team lost, I think people who saw him for the first time said "wow, this guy is great".

Moronic and shortsighted, ignores empirical evidence to the contrary.
Thats what this post is

That's pretty cool!
But I question his judgement if he thinks that NINE QB's will be taken in round 1, sure this is a loaded QB class but no way do 9 teams need a new QB so bad they draft in rd 1....

The way we lost to UGA and how Mett played puts him more in contention than it did before IMO
Facing his old team in his hometown. A ton of pressure and mett delivered and matched murray step for step
