Looking at a 4 seater because I have have a small herd of kids not including nephews and nieces. Hill country with good roads but trucks are not allowed on approx 1/2 the 5000 acres. Seem like the perfect fit for me on the surface.

Not built for speed but I love mine. I have the double seater. And it can pack a ton of weight. Also can climb some nice hills. It is heavy though, so it can get stuck.

They're not fast.
They do hold up extremely well though. If I was getting a sxs it'd be a mule. They handle hours very well.

I have the Kawasaki Teryx. I dont think they have much in common, but the build quality from Kawi is good. They do make a 4 seater version of the Teryx as well. I think it has a pretty small bed compared to the Mule though. Also bucket seats as opposed to bench.

IMPO(profesional) I would buy the 400 or 500 ranger.
Rides better
Pulls better
Haul bigger load
Less clutch maint.
More power,so faster
Uses an atv engine, not a redesigned lawnmower engine
Ive rebuilt about 15-20 mule engines and only one Polaris engine. And we have way more Polaris here than mules

We've got a 4 seater Mule and haven't had any complaints. It is speed regulated, but I don't really have any desire to go 50 mph in a glorified golf cart anyhow. We've had ours for 4 yrs and it has held up just fine. We easily fit 4 adults and 2 kids.

I prefer speed regulation. Vehicles governed at 25 mph and under are legal on public roads around my house. Plus kids

Grease, Ive had my mind set on that midsize 500 ranger since it came out. BUT, what do you think about that new 570, any difference for the extra change?
It will be a while before I buy, just getting ideas.

all polaris engines over 335cc are some of the best.
Havent had any dealing with the 570 but the 900 and 1000 are made by the same company(prostar made in Merica) and we have abused the hell out of them with no prob.
OP
the mules are dependable if you dont have to go through any mud or water. If you do buy the Ranger.
The v twin mules have valve covers that warp and leak.Water pump will go out without warning and cost you a grand to fix engine(you can run a ranger without water without warping block and heads) Valves need adjusted to often(ranger never needs adj),they dont idle good. The rear diff lock will break if you use it often. They are cold natured(all kawis are unless fuel inj) and the rangers resale is double that of a mule.
FWIW I am far from a brand whore but the ranger is twice the machine that the mule is

Polaris must have changed alot in the past few years. i had one about 10 years ago and it was nothing but trouble, bad trouble. the dealership stopped taking it in for repairs because they claimed i had masxed out the limit they would pay for a lifetime of warranty work. i ended up giving it away to my friend's dad a few years ago.
Honda, Yamaha, and Kawaski make the most reliable machines if you ask my opinion.

Slow as shite and heavy as hell.

Ive worked on atvs for over 20yrs.
Honda used to make the best motors, back before 99.
The rear ends suck. They arent bad but not as tough as Polaris motors. And 3wh drive sucks
Yamahas are great but for deep water they are to light in the front end. And you cant steer them with the diff lock engaged.

Polaris got a bad name because they had 100 grease fittings that no one greased,so they fell apart.
2000 and newer polaris are better than the early ones though.
Best ride, best engine, pull better, best 4x4 system,no electric shift ,and we sinks ours regularly, but since the trans is seperate from engine its easy to get the water out.
Cant say that for others, after sinking them a couple of times they need rebuilt.
my 04 700 polaris sportsman has been sunken at least 50 times, never had to do anything but a couple of belts and brakes twice a yr cause theyre heavy.
Like I said worked on them for 20yrs and would by polaris evry time and every mechanic I know that works on all the brands will say the same.
Not that the others wont do what people need them to do,but IMO polaris will do it better, longer and more comfortably.
