The only problem I really have is that people have become content with this style of music, no matter the genre. Example: I have a cousin who claims to be a musician, lives in Nashville, the whole nine yards and acts as though this bland/unoriginal style of music is actually good. Hell, half of this person's "original" material is lifted from others "original" material.
ETA: I guess my point is, so much of this type of music has been shoved down peoples throats to the point where they have actually fooled people into thinking it's good music.

I have actually stopped listening to "Pop Country" since around January because of all the re-tread songs. Between Aldean, Bryan, Church, and Gilbert, couldn't take anymore tailgates, tan lines, and tail lights under the moonlight songs. It is selling albums and selling out venues across the U.S. so there is no reason for them to change anything. I went out listened to that new Luke Bryan song Zac Brown mentioned...had to turn it off after a minute and a half. Unlistenable!!!

No, I read it. Just because he writes his own songs and plays his own instruments, that makes him better than the others? There are tons of people in country and not in country that do and don't write their own songs.
Ummmm, of course that makes him better. If you are not writing your own songs and on top of that not even playing an instrument, you are not a artist or musician, you're just a pretty face that can sing.

Zac comes off okay in this interview. I like ZBB, but I really don't listen to modern country.
Brad Paisley is about the only artist today that could've existed ten, maybe twenty years ago. I'm a big fan, and he is a tremendous guitar player.

frick Glen Campbell. Galveston and Rhinestone Cowboy are two of the worst country songs ever, along with Red Solo Cup and anything by Jason Aldeen.

Just to show how backwards country music is, CMT played Will Hoge's music video for Strong the other day. They put the "Edge of Country" label on the video
Your shitting me don't surprise me though, they did the same thing to James Wesleys, "Real" music video 3 years back.

Any member of 'The Wrecking Crew' gets props from me.

Same could be said today about Keith Urban or Taylor Swift. They are good musicians, but their music is too pop for me. .
I'm not hating on the guys I listed above, but our parents were probably having the same discussion (although not on a internet forum) about how those guys were "ruining country" and turning it into "pop." Pop in mainstream country is nothing new, its just more prevalent now.
Dunno....my parents were listening to Glen Campbell and Hank Williams both.
My main beef with the current crop is that they all seem to right about the same exact things, like following a formula. Whatever you can say about the artist you mentioned, at least they all sounded unique.

I heard "Parking Lot Party" the other day while flicking through the radio. You can add this one to the list of douchery and tailgates.
It was just turrible but I LOL'd.
