Zac Brown and Gary Allan on the state of popular country music

Zac calls Luke Bryan's new song "the worst song I've ever heard" and says most of what's on country radio wants to make him throw up.
At least fans of traditional country aren't the only ones feeling free enough to voice their frustrations with Nashville.

Zac Brown has no room to talk about awful country music

1. Gary Allan is pretty much stating that he is sticking to his roots rather than trying to make music for the radio. He is one of my favorites originally. He had a rough few years IMO but his last album was much better at getting back to his original sound.
2. Zac Brown isn't country either. He is blue grass so he can STFU.
With that said, I agree much of the country radio is bad, but you can't blame stations and executives for catering to the $$ of the masses. If you don't like what you hear, turn it off.

Does Zac Brown truly think he isn't part of the problem as well?
ETA: After re-reading it, I see where Brown is coming from, but also find it hypocritical

You obviously didn't read the article. He states this in the interview. He agrees he's not part of the traditional country format.

No, I read it. Just because he writes his own songs and plays his own instruments, that makes him better than the others? There are tons of people in country and not in country that do and don't write their own songs. And almost all artists play an instrument.

I don't love Zac Brown but he's a whole hell of a lot better than the Jason Aldeans of the world.

I can't help but laugh thinking of the Nashville music execs describing Luke Bryan's music as "cutting edge" and "pushing boundaries" when they signed him and were talking about the record. "Have you heard the new Luke Bryan"? "Oh, man!"
It's the cutting edge into poo

Bingo...if he were commenting on James Taylor impersonations, then I would give him his due, but he is in no position to judge otherwise.
That said, Luke Bryan's new song is second only to Aldean's bed shitter of 1993 for worst songs of the decade.

I agree. Take away the song chicken fried though. That really hurt his cred here. And who said that they were bluegrass. That's retarded.

My apologies for this fricknut Mr. Monroe, he's clearly out of his gourd.

Zac Brown did manage to assemble some supremely talented musicians. The musicianship is incredible live, and I hate country/Country-ish music.

I respect ZBB for their songwriting and musicianship. He kinda gets on my nerves though, and is not really my cup of tea. I spent the better part of the weekend on a tractor that would only pick up 1 radio station. A mainstream country station. I rocked my frickin face of to Luke Bryan, Toby Queef, Blake Shelton and the boys for 2 days. First time I've really listen to that shite in years. I'm considerably more dumber now than I was Friday..

Just to show how backwards country music is, CMT played Will Hoge's music video for Strong the other day. They put the "Edge of Country" label on the video.
That's probably the most country song they've played in 2013.

Country music really started slipping with the come uppance of Garth and Shania. Exec's saw how much they could make in pop country and true country got pushed out.
Posted on 9/16/13 at 4:43 pm to Alahunter
Yep, but for every Shania they used to have a Mark Chesnutt to balance it out. Now, there is no more true country artists on the radio.
There has always been pop country (John Denver, Glen Campbell, Bellamy Brothers, Kenny Rogers, Mel Tillis), but there was more than enough good country to drown it out. Now, that is not the case anymore as the poppy shite is all the radio plays.
