I'm looking into a a couple dozen companies trying to get interviews for jobs when I graduate. Has anyone heard of Fluor? I'd never heard of them until yesterday. Other companies I haven't really heard of are Orion Marine Group, Axiall Corporation, US Fusion LLC, Valarus, and Trinity

Nope, never heard for the world's largest industrial engineering contractor.

I did some research on them and saw that and couldn't believe I'd never heard of them. Is it just that most of the work in Southeast Louisiana is done by the likes of Turner, Cajun, Performance, Group, Shaw (now CBI), ect?

Yes. My dad worked there busting Unions in the 90s. I also have a few friends that went to Clemson who work there as there is an office in Greenville, SC. They all seem to like it. Are you looking at accounting and finance jobs?

Somewhat. Most of the stuff in the area is actually a little small for them.

no, I'm on the construction side. I talked with one of their project controls guys out of Houston yesterday and it seemed like a good gig, but I just wanted to see if anyone on the OT had any other experience with them.

I don't know anything about the construction side. I had a friend who interviewed from SC a few years back. Said he had a few interviews which each lasted 4 hours long until they finally told him they were on a year and a half hiring freeze . My dad liked Fluor and would have stayed there but they would have moved him all around the country and he wanted to keep it in SC.

Fluor hires these companies to do work for them.

That makes sense. Anyone have any testimonials of what it's like to work for them? Company culture? Things like that?

Axiall is Georgia Gulf. They just changed names (merger I believe) about 6 months ago.

I work for Fluor on the engineering side. Like any big company, who you work for/with makes the experience. I've never worked for another large corp so I don't have any other experience to compare it to.

I worked some projects with Orion's dredging group kingfisher marine.
The workers were good, but PMs were gone after each project. I'd look somewhere else, but never hurts to interview.
All my friends that went to Fluor liked it.

We have a bunch of small contracts in the Garyville plant right now. In the past 15 years Fluor has gotten away from self performing the work, but corporate has put a major emphasis on rebuilding their self perform capabilities.

We used Flour to do engineering design for one of our projects. It's a first class operation with knowledgeable people. I was impressed. Very professional.
