I was hoping we would have picked him up too(and he was cheap at only $1.4 mil). He's looking like a balla tonight.
I still have high hopes for Galette and Wilson(I have my doubts of Butler being that good but I think he would have been solid AKA Haralson), but if we could have added a guy like that, damn.
Never understood why we didn't even bring him in.
Stats: 4 tackles(3 solo), 2.5 sacks, 2 tackles for a loss, 3 QB hits, 1 forced fumble.

Stats are probably somewhat inflated since the ravens were playing from behind for so long and flacco threw 62 times. I see your point though.

And I immediately called bs on that. 9.5 sacks, 2 ff, 3 fr, 3 pd, and 2 tfl at age 31 seems pretty solid to me(and was an uptick from the prior season). Only time he's had under 7 sacks was his rookie year and a year where he missed 4 games.
And he plays the strong side OLB which isn't really the sack specialist spot.
I thought he may have been asking for too much money, but $1.4 for that kind of production is cheap.
Edit:
He may have had more chances, but on the plays where he got in he was super fast back there so it wasn't coverage sacks. Those were legit beat your man in a second and hit the QB sacks.

No
He only looked good after Oher got injured, when he was against the backup Tackle.

I just thought he was a solid 3-4 vet that wouldn't be a bank buster. I was all for Butler as well. He had never been a fulltime starter tho. Phillips would have provided veteran starting experience to help our youngster OLBs.

And that's what I thought we needed: experience(also why I was HEAVILY against drafting Jones). We had the young guys with potential so why bring in Butler who was just another young guy with potential(I get that he knew the system though).
I do feel better now that we have Haralson though, but I think Phillips would have brought a little more to the table. It's good to have a legit 3-4 OLB with starting experience to help with Galette and Wilson.

Phillips didn't play so well last season, according to PFF.
Not well at all.
Got killed by the run.

Not entirely his fault(not saying he's good against the run either). I wouldn't say the Chargers had a good Dline. You put a player in a bad position and 9 times out of 10 he will look bad. Just think Harper in coverage for most of last season.
Edit:
And that's the main reason I don't take PFF rankings at face value. They are a good indicator(especially on offense where each player can stand out good or bad individually), but defense is where it truly takes 11 guys being on the same page and if one guys isn't doing his job to other guys aren't going to look good either most of the time.
Someone doesn't take up the double team, the CB misses the jam, the LB takes the wrong gap, etc. The other guys will have to try to correct that mistake and then their responsibility suffers.

That and the non-challenge is pretty much when the game turned

He was completely ineffective until oher went down and he was going against a backup
