LSU would have lost that game last year

TCU stacked 8/9 guys in the box against our two back sets. We could not run consistently against that. Last year, we would have just rammed our heads right into it. This year we actually passed on early downs and let the passing game take advantage of what the defense was giving up. I was at the game, way up top, and could watch the defensive alignments. The first deep ball we completed, TCU literally had all 11 defenders within 7 yards of the line of scrimmage.
Last night definitely showed a shift in offensive philosophy. I expect us to be a run first team, but teams will not be allowed to ignore the passing game like they have in the past.

Team anti-LSU has to regroup

Agree. Despite some of the miscues, I haven't seen a much better LSU opener in many years. The biggest game changer is, yes, Mettenberger's development since last season and a different offensive philosophy, but the former allows the latter to be possible. New OC definitely helps, too.
The only thing that bothered me last night was that Mett threw the ball away a lot -- which yes, I'm glad he didn't throw any INTs -- but that is either a testament to TCU's defense or Mett not seeing those opportunities to connect as much as he should.
Obviously, the next few games will confirm just where he is...BUT
overall I liked what I saw for an opener.

Yeah, we have lost so many season openers or OOC regular season games the past tens years.

Dude, that game was very similar to the Clemson game at the end of last year. Only this year when LSU made mistakes to let TCU back into the game, they responded by staying calm and putting the team away for good. That's a tremendous improvement and a good sign of things to come this year!

I don't think the timing (opening game) or opponent (OOC) has anything to do with the point he made.

I agree that the offense is much improved. We can still run as always, but finally have a reliable passing attack. This team will be fun to watch.
But I still think we would have beat them last year in an ugly slugfest.
