Is Week One a "Must Win" Game?

It's very important but it's not the end of the season if we lose.
So I would say no, but we better not lose.

I live in Atlanta. If we lose, I'm going to have to move. I've been talking too much shite. Losing is not even close to an option. Must-win.

I think it sets the tone for the season, so yes.
Think about 2011. We lost a very close opener, and we lost a very close game in the playoffs that same year. We need to win this.

The away matchup will be the more important of the two.

I think it is. Here's why:
#1- It's a home game. You have to win your home games and steal some on the road to make the playoffs.
#2- It's a division game. The easiest way to make the playoffs is to win your division. More importantly, it's a division game against the only other dominant threat in the NFC South.
#3- A victory would set the tone for Ryan's new defense and Payton's return.
Can we make the playoffs with a loss? Sure. Does a victory mean we win the Super Bowl? No. But this is a damn important game out of the box- probably the biggest one in several seasons.
ETA: If we lose to Atlanta at home, it's likely that we lose to them on the road as well. If we drop both games to them, winning the NFC South will be very difficult. We have to hold serve here.

Yes, its a 2 game lead on them if we win off the bat

With our schedule, every home game is a must win. The second game will likely be the deciding factor as far as the division, but playoff wise, we need to win this one and get a strong start to the season. Schedule gets a lot more difficult down the line.

it's a must-not-lose-and-try-not-to-tie game

We win week one but lose week 17 to get into the playoffs. Which one is more important?
That game...when ever it happens in a year that gets you into the playoffs is always the most important of the year.
Always.

As close to a must win week 1 that you can get.

I understand this is not season ending if we lose, although I don't want to drop a division game right out of the gate to the Falcons.

They're all must win in my book, and I hope in Payton's book also.

Is this thread a "must post" thread every week?
