McCarthy or Payton which coach has been more successful?

McCarthy:
74-38 .660 winning percentage
1 Super Bowl win
5 Playoff Appearances
2 NFC Championship game appearances
Payton:
62-35 .646 winning percentage
1 Super Bowl win
4 Playoff appearances
2 NFC championship game appearances
(Missing 1 season due to suspension we all know about)
Both coaches have marquee QB's which helps tremendously which would you prefer going further? Both started their HC careers same year.
(I know Louisiana based board I won't get biased responses right?)

McCarthy made Aaron Brooks look like a great QB and made Jim Haslett into COtY.

Good question!
I'm going to give the edge to Payton for two reasons....
1: even God himself couldn't make the Saints a Super Bowl winning team up until SP.
2: Based on his absence last year alone, the difference in ha ing him and not having him is night and day.

We will see how the saints are with him back, thus far I would say mcCarthy.
I don't think you can do what 4lsu is doing and say since the saints sucked last year Payton is more successful... I'm thinking he's saying Payton is a better coach, which is a different discussion.
Eta: how deep into playoffs did each team get? I think this matters.

1 Successful bounty program

Payton did help turn Quincy Carter into a decent QB as well. With that said, this one is still too close to call. Both are great offensive minds & really good head coaches.

Actually, it's McCarthy who ran a successful bounty program because his team was not scapegoated for it.
But don't let facts get in the way of your troll job.

Forgot about this. Turning "Q" into anything serviceable is a huge feat. But Parcells was in that as well.
Payton also took a gamble and won. Brees over Culpepper at the time. Huge arm vs. OK arm. A bad knee on a guy who knew he was getting too old to be mobile anyway vs. a guy whose throwing shoulder rotator cuff exploded.
McCarthy DID make a transition from a stud HOF QB to another. Which almost never happens. Ask the Denver Broncos.

Payton was cheating by paying players to cripple and maim, and was also spying on opposing locker rooms.
So McCarthy is the answer.
So McCarthy is the answer.

McCarthy took over a good team. Payton took over the saints

I think that it's about as even as it gets. I tend to think that Payton's offense is more innovative, but that's probably just the homer in me. There might not be any basis in reality for that. I'm going to call it a tie.
