the thing i hate most about the regular season and the split... St. Paul's can go 0-2 in those first two games and even 0-10 and still be guaranteed a state playoff game by just putting 11 kids out there
Exactly. But like I've said before, everyone is happy because the public schools don't have to play Curtis and Evangel.

He wasn't. But who is going to contest it two years later? Fontainebleau?
You would think St Paul's would contest it, since they make their freshmen sign forms saying they will be ineligible if they transfer to CHS or Hannan

bc clearly a 7-4 season and first round playoff loss from two years ago is worth the negative articles in the paper saying "they cheated!"

It will take a gargantuan effort for St. Paul's to beat Karr this year. I'm not sure how familiar you are with Karr's roster for 2013, but it could quite possibly be the most talented team in the country. That is not an exaggeration, either.
I agree. I hear this every year about Karr. And it is true that Karr is absolutely loaded every year. But SPS beats them every year week 1. If it was week 10 I would say Karr would kill them. But it's week 1 so I think SPS has a very good chance.

Don't forget about that Black and Orange they gotta go through. I believe CHS-BR would be the favorite, especially with Guice and their D.

I think Catholic has a chance to win it this year just like St. Paul's. With the new format it is wide open for Division 4 select or whatever it is called now. Teams like Catholic and St Paul's that could not have won it in the old system now have very good chance. It only takes 2 wins to get to the Dome now and one of which could possibly be a lay up against the likes of a Holy Cross or Brother Martin. They don't have to go back to back games against the likes of the West Monroes and Acadianas.

That will be the most wide open playoff bracket of the nine championship brackets. How the season plays out and how the seeding lines up will mean a lot. Man i can't wait for the season to start.
Brewhan, the same night that St Paul's and Karr play Mandeville plays DeKaney High from Spring, Texas. DeKaney is like the Edna Karr of Texas. The Mandeville-DeKaney game starts at 5pm and according to what i read the SPS-Karr game starts at 7:30pm. I'm thinking about doing a doubleheader and go check out the SPS-Karr game after the MHS game. A little Northshore doubleheader to kick off the season.

Are they being played at the same location? That would be awesome. I know in week 2, St. Paul's plays Jesuit in the Dome.

the main event at Mandeville in week 1 is Curtis vs. Bergen Catholic of NJ that night...
Posted on 7/18/13 at 12:50 pm to brewhan davey
No. Mandeville is hosting a doubleheader MHS vs. DeKaney at 5pm and Curtis vs. Bergen Catholic from New Jersey at 7:30pm. I might be in the minority but personally I would rather leave and go see SPS vs Karr after the MHS game.

As much as I'd love to see that game, I can't miss an opportunity to watch my alma mater take on Edna Karr this year.
I think I'll check out the Curtis-St. Aug game in October though.

they should have kept it to just 6 of the 10 teams making the playoffs in D1 select...
for D2, 10 out of 16
D3, 8 out of 15
D4, 16 of 30
classes 3A, 4A, and 5A are okay
2A should have had 24 out of 39 and 1A 16 out of 27

Or combine the D1 and D2 divisions.

they had a reason not to do that, flimsy as it was... (UHigh whining about enrollment disparity when we know Curtis wouldn't)
but there was no reason all the teams had to make the playoffs. none at all

Yeah, it's just like giving every team a participation trophy like in little league sports. Kids can still get the state playoff patch for their letterman jackets, even if their team goes 0-10 during the regular season.
Posted on 7/18/13 at 1:10 pm to brewhan davey
The whole playoff format is now just one big crapfest. All because nobody wants to play Curtis. And I am a public school guy. I think everybody loses in this new format because no championship means as much as it used to.
Posted on 7/18/13 at 1:17 pm to Mr Eko
That's exactly it. The entire system could have been resolved by allowing Curtis, Evangel, and any other team for that matter, to play in the highest classification.
But, it made more sense for the larger public schools to vote agains this, because they didn't want to have to play Curtis or Evangel. So forcing teams to play in the classification that corresponds to their enrollment was the best solution they came up with. Completely political.

The solution is so easy. Create a 6A for football playoffs only and whoever has the nuts to play in it can play in it.
