I mean, it was never earth shattering, but I remember all the way through highschool and a few years after (including when Coursey opened) that it was solid food that I'd look forward to eating.
maybe your taste buds have matured

Original location has gone to shite as well since our college days.
A real shame, used to spend a lot if time there.
Agreed, Chimes East is actually better of the 2 now, which isn't saying much

It was either me moving out from behind their building and them turning our house into a parking lot, or me taking my wife off of their staff to move to San Francisco. ?

My brother asked him for the beer list. The guy says, "we don't have that anymore".
my Brother, "what do you mean you don't have it"
server, "yeah we stopped carrying them because they were always out of date"
Chimes East and Red Zeppelin are the only places in town that bother updating their beer menu. Chimes doesn't care anymore, and Pelican House has done maybe 2 updates to theirs. I shouldn't complain though, I know how difficult it is to work with spreadsheets and hit the print button.

They fricked up the cheese fries... how do you frick up cheese fries?!
I don't know how you frick up cheese fries. We get them nearly every time we go, and they're still glorious. And now I can get bacon on them too!

And you didn't notice the move to the lowest grade of frozen french fry they moved to a couple years ago?

If you're ever in Bay St Louis a new place called the Blind Tiger makes the most glorious cheese fries you've ever had. It's just bacon, cheese and sour cream, but the fries are insane and guarantee you'll crack the frick out on them.

If by lowest grade, you mean no longer soggy, then it was a move for the better.

Maybe they changed back.
Last time I had them they were thin-cut McDonald's-esque fries with a few SLICES of cheese melted on top. Terrible.
Used to be thicker cuts, and shredded cheese melted throughout.
And the boudin balls have gone downhill also.

Yup. Last time i was there it was really really bad. I avoid that place like the plague.

I go to Chimes East much more often than the original, but I haven't noticed any issues with the food at the original the few times I've been there in the past couple years. Both places provide solid casual food IMO and an atmosphere that suits me just right.

They even use beermenus.com or whatever. I use that instead of the actual menu because it tells me what's new. Chimes east experiences over the past two years has been pretty solid.

No, that!
I used to be there two times a week in college, it's just not as good. Especially the appetizers, the Chimes Club is still good.
I agree that the atmosphere is great, but between the beer list complacency and decline in food quality... I'll typically go somewhere else.

My staple dishes there are blackened alligator, red beans and rice, crawfish mac'n'cheese, and crab cakes. I haven't noticed any decline in quality in those dishes. My wife usually gets salads or some type of sandwich... haven't heard a complaint. What is bullshite is the fairly recent policy change which requires you to get fries with a sandwich, no substitutions.
The beer list may be complacent but it is still leaps and bounds better than most causal dining places that I consider competitors ( i.e. Dempsey's, Sammy's, etc.). I know I can go there and at least get SN Pale Ale or Anchor Steam. If you look at the menu right now for the original location, it isn't too shabby.

This is why it's my go to place. There's always something on the menu I can get and really enjoy. Some of their soups are really good. Blackened alligator is really good, as is the crawfish mac-n-cheese. Chimes club (blackened on a croissant) is a staple for me. Jalepeno burger has been really good of late.
I complain about the complacency of the beer menu, but in reality, there are about 2 places in town with a better draft selection. And they don't give me frosted pint glasses.
$8 for a 20 ounce imperial pint of Stone Ruin Ten is way better than what Pelican House is charging. Or you can get all their draft beers in a 10 ounce glass for less.

I'm just bitter that they desecrated my two favorite appetizers. They had some of the best cheese fries and boudin balls in town... no longer.
