I'm wondering why being in the POSITION to do that is a negative

Well, on that note, I think it's directly related to Saban's success.
2005 The stress Katrina brought on the team can't be underestimated. Lot of guys were housing/helping people for the whole season and ATL crystallized this. By the 3rd quarter they were flat worn out.
2006 - Jamarcus was a fine CFB QB but I thought the Raiders pick absurd. He did great against teams we outran but against those we didn't (AU and UF - 13 points total) he is what he is. You're not outrunning anyone in the NFL hence his 'career'. (Same could be said of Spurrier also).
2008/2009 - Losing RP hurt as much as anything.

Don't get me wrong. I'm a Les Homer with eyes wide open. The HC's main job is recruiting, staff hires and keeping everyone on the same page. Poor QB recruiting and QB development has hurt. Hopefully Cameron will rectify this. Recruiting is fine. I think he needs to work a bit on team focus and if this means benching someone taking breaks, so be it. The only time I've ever been truly 'dissappointed' in Miles is when he threw JJ under the bus after the 09 OM game. This was a moral lapse to me, but if that was the worst thing he ever does here, Gawd bless him.

But the negativity. Miles isn't Saban. Doing more than the other 99% doesn't seem to matter. It's more a commentary on some of the fans rather than Miles to me though.

Id say that OL attrition hurt him overall more than QB development. We had absolutely no depth in our down years and it affected the clock in JJ/JL's head
