Read the comic "Injustice: Gods Among Us" for what Superman is capable of doing if he's pushed and feels he has no other option.
I know it's not canon, but in that version, the Joker turned Lois (and her unborn child) into the trigger for a nuclear bomb which destroyed Metropolis, then used the Scarecrow's fear toxin to make Superman think she was Doomsday.
Basically, in that version, he did to Superman what he couldn't do to Batman...push him over the edge. Supes responds by punching through the Joker's heart and it gets worse from there.

John Williams tremendous score
Could they not use the original "Superman" theme even in the credits? Would have been the only thing that would have held up from the originals. Williams did both right?

I thought the ending was fine and the movie as a whole was spectacular.

Honestly, like Burton's Batman theme, it wouldn't have worked here. They're both incredibly iconic, but neither fit the tone of their changed universes.

I love the original score but the music was perfect for this movie.
I just got out of man of steel and it was far better than I expected. He had no choice but to kill Zod. I have no problem with it. My only problem is Jonathan kent dying to save a dog. That was ridiculous. Overall though I loved the movie. I also think it's a great setup for more of Clark kent / superman duality in the next movie.

I hated Kevin Costner in this movie. Honestly, if he was never in a movie again, I wouldn't mind. They did a good job of showing his earth dad's lack of faith in Clark's ability to win over humanity and his Krypton dad's complete faith in Clark to win over humanity.

"Injustice: Gods Among Us"
That comic book series was specifically written to be the premise of a video game created by NetherRealm (Mortal Kombat games). I wouldn't invest too much thought into that as a basis for what Superman is capable of.

That's certainly why he refused to let Clark help him. I don't think he went out there to die on purpose, and I would have an even bigger problem with that. But I did admire the fact that he put what he was convinced was in Clark's best interest above his own. Even at the expense of his own life. He could have come across as cold when he suggested Clark should have let the kids on the bus die. But when it came to his own life he was consistent. Clark in the end learns from both of his dads, by becoming both superman and the alter ego Clark.

But when it came to his own life he was consistent.
Jor-el - Optimist. Even in the midst of his own people's destruction. Just like he said, their name means Hope. He was optimistic that his son would do the right thing. He was optimistic and hoped that Earth would accept his son and see the goodness in him.
Jonathan Kent - Typical miserable old frick. Constantly beating down his kid. Had zero faith in humanity. I never for one moment believed that he 1. wanted what was best for Clark, 2. loved Clark, 3. felt that Clark was good enough to be a positive for mankind.
His position was hostile and just overall unbelievable. And the whole "wave hand to Clark, let me die" scene was terrible. Terrible writing, terrible acting, etc.

Wrong. He was cautious about how the world would receive him. But he knew he would be important to the world when the time was right. He taught Clark restraint and maturity, essential qualities of superman.
Jonathan Kent: You’re not just anyone. One day, you’re going to have to make a choice. You have to decide what kind of man you want to grow up to be. Whoever that man is, good character or bad, it’s going to change the world.
Jonathan Kent: You’re the answer, son. You’re the answer to “are we alone in the universe”.
Clark Kent at 13: Can’t I just… keep pretending I’m your son?
Jonathan Kent: You ARE my son. And I have to believe that you were sent here for a reason. And even if it takes the rest of your life, you owe it to yourself to find out what that reason is.

He doesn't kill humans. Humans can be captured easily and imprisoned. Zod cannot, and he couldn't even send back to the phantom zone as far as he knew. Zod made clear that he intended to kill as many humans as possible.

I couldnt disagree more. I thought he was great at JK. Think about it. If you had an alien son, your reluctance to bring light on him would weigh heavy on anyone. He even said that whatever you decide to be, good or bad, will change the world. I think he was only protecting him from the unknown and trying to guide him to be a good and humble person. I thought he played the part to perfection, but then again, I like Kevin Costner. I dont know who couldve played JK better to be honest.

Hey I didn't say that.
But I agree with you except for the fact that John Schneider IS Jonathan Kent.

It is mixed. It has some great characters and some bad ones. Some great storylines and some very bad. But Clark, Jonathan, Martha, and lex and Lionel Luthor are all very good. But especially jonathan kent. If you like superman it is worthwhile, but I never saw the last few seasons because of deployments. I hope they come to netflix or amazon sometime.

No kidding. I was agreeing with you.

Seriously, if you are complaining that this movie wasn't good because it was too much of a departure from the previous films then please go re-watch them.

i love the chris reeve ones, but you have to admit that the action was improved. cavil's man of steel had no care for loss of human life it seemed, but besides that it was good
