Seems like the fun part is over. Now come the grunt work. As of right now the goal is to get 2 huntable areas on the world famous Chattahoochee Flyway.
The first area is the one that touches the train tracks. Will try to get where we can plant with grain and flood.
The second area will be the scrub brush. For now the plan would be to cut lanes in it and leave islands.
Planning on using something like the Clemson levelers right now. Looking forward to posting progress and reading OB insight and suggestions.
That's a large powerline on the left and southeast of the scrub brush is the main creek. The squiggles are the boom sites from the Dam explosions.

I would clear it all, then plant some grain in it.

When do you usually drain it, and when do you stop the drain up in the fall?
I'd say we are getting about a gallon a second flow right now feeding into the creek. (Takes about 5 seconds to fill a 5 gallon bucket.)

Do you duck hunt now? If so, do you do any good in AL?

What part of Bama is this in? If it's as far south as Dothan I wouldn't even bother. The money would be much better spent on gas, guides, and hotels in Arky, La, Ms, or hell even N. Alabama for that matter

Is that drain under the railroad already? If not good luck with that

We kill wood ducks, and want to kill more. We can go to Louisiana to hunt any time we want. Just something else local and pretty. And with only 4 to 6 inches of water means you can probably still kill some deer in it I imagine.
Yeah they have the drain under the track already in place. I'd be afraid to touch that one. Brother did pretty good just sitting on the train tracks this year.

If woodies are what y'all are after then I wouldn't change much about the place. Its apparent they (woodies) already are using it and like the setup the way it is. Sometimes trying to change things only hurts the setup. My advice is corn and wood duck boxes. During the times leading up to the season you might want to stop with the corn

Think of it as adding another high maintenance duel purpose green field
