I can't remember where I seen it, but there was a thread that had a page and half argument in regards to if a headset was included or not.
Here you go.
LINK
Microsoft has confirmed to IGN that Xbox One will not come bundled with a headset, as per Xbox 360 tradition. Instead, Microsoft points to Kinect's "highly sensitive multi-array microphones designed to enable voice inputs and chat as a system-level capability, both in-game and with Skype and other experiences."
Xbox 360 tradition? My day one Xbox 360 was packaged with a headset.

I don't know a single person that uses the headset that came with their console.

I'm guessing you can use your existing one anyway.

I bet they will make it so you can't, more money on accessories that way.

it would have been a shitty mic anyways

That would be shitty. And probable.

this
Those headsets suck and break within a couple months. I would buy a decent want anyway so this is a non factor IMO

they can keep their $10 plastic cheapo headset, it'll come out of the box for me.
in the grand scheme of this is your paying $500 for a console and at least $60 for a game to play on that console....what is $15?

Pretty sure ign reported a while back that old headsets won't work on Xbox One. Not sure if still valid though.

I meant the ones like Turtle Beach or Astro, etc.

that would be shitty if my TB's don't work with the ps4

The One controller features a proprietary connector. So, no, you won't be able to use your old headsets.
Microsoft wants players to use the Kinect for voice chat during games. It seems to work well enough when you're alone, but I'm curious to see how functional the Kinect will be when others are in the room. The Kinect is intelligent enough to only accept voice input from the individual with the controller in his hands, but how would the player selectively determine which audio they want to transmit when they speak?
Perhaps one of the contextual buttons on the controller cold be used to enable voice input for the Kinect via a press and hold mechanic.

I used mine until it broke earlier this year. 2005-2013. RIP.

I actually used it for Halo 4 and Reach.
It wasn't great but it worked fine.
I don't know if the turtle beaches have gotten better quality wise, but the pair I had was an absolute piece of shite.

The one I have is outstanding.. But I just get tired of wearing the big arse thing after long periods.

Turtle beach needs to get off their arse and make an adapter. Which would totally go against the correct business model.

I had the x31 set.
The build quality was absolutely terrible IMO.
