Who was the better Coach, Dinardo vs. Archer, my first post

Glad to be back in LA...my first post
Not sure there is a clear answer,
MA went 27-18-1 and 15-12 in SEC 1-1 in Bowls and won one SEC title (tie in 88)
GD was 33-24-1, 18-20-1, 3-0 in Bowls
Archer never was a head coach again (which may say something) while Dinardo got another HC job at IU. Both (I assume we agree) got fired from LSU for losing and losing control of the players and program. I think Archer had better talent, but even that is not clear. Like to hear other's thoughts as far as better college coach, better on field coach (not sure either did well in this), better recruiter and which had a more positive long term impact on LSU football.
Thanks

Hard to say, actually. I think Dinardo may be the better coach. If he were here today with the talent we have now, he'd be much, much better than he was in the 90's.

Archer was in way over his head. Rode Arnsbargers coattails, and I believe Arnsbarger lobbied pretty hard for him. Totally lost contol of the team, and started the dearth spiral.

no contest. Dinardo was the better coach.
Archer was a program destroyer, pretty much. DiNardo at least raised the talent and performance of the team out of the darkest period in history.
Archer was a very solid X&O's defensive guy. He just had absolutely no business running a program. And he was the worst recruiter of all-time LSU history bar none.

I'll say Gerry d
But archer was too young at that time
Archer still coaching, GD not so much

It's no contest for DiNardo. Recruiting is far and away the most important part of college coaching and DiNardo could recruit. He left Saban with some decent talent. When Hallman took over for Archer, the talent at LSU was embarrassingly low.
Where you could debate is who was worse out of Archer and Hallman, but DiNardo was much, much better than either.

Coach Dinardo reminded the fanbase, after the 89-94 nadir, that there is such a thing as Magic in Tiger Stadium, got Faulk, began getting our best in-state recruits, and laid down a foundation Saban built a mansion on.

Yeah, with AU who we beat and were still tied then they go to SB!
But GD was good for bring the magic back but every other week!
MA was too much a players buddy/coach and young.
I say GD hands down except when hired Lou!

Dinardo and its not close. He still gets overlooked for bringing LSU back to decency. Signing of Kevin Faulk was the groundwork for the golden age of LSU football that we are still enjoying. That showed what LSU could be with the in state talent and had a lot to do with Saban wanting to come here. He left a decent amount of undisciplined talent when he left.
Archer is not a bad coach now but he was nowhere near ready for the LSU job at the time. I think he was like 34 and that was unheard of at the time. He pretty much did the opposite of Dinardo, taking the program from good to terrible and seemed to prefer out of state talent over in state when it was available.

Hallman vs Archer is a better question.
