How many companies that you know are loyal? I'll wait.

Here is a lesson for all the kids out there. 99/100 a company doesn't care about you, do what you need to do for your career, loyalty to a company is overrated.

I honestly didn't know the Schwab was still alive. I haven't hear his name in almost a decade. Who cares.

Stump the Schwab
Stuart Scott at his corniest. Tight show though

I hope Howie stole reams of paper and grabbed a few staplers on his way out.

Loved it.
Hopefully he turns up on another network. As others have said, if it wasn't for the fact that ESPN has bought up damn near everything I wouldn't watch at all.

The ONLY time I watch that horseshi!t network is when a game is on.
I used to watch Sports Center all the time as a kid. I watched it way too much and it would really be one of the few things I watched on T.V.
I got burned out on it in the early 2000's I believe. I think if I wasn't so overly fascinated with it growing up, I'd probably still watch it today and not think anything else of it.
People talk about how watered down their product has become now. Yeah, I'm sure it is. But it is hard for me to talk shite about ESPN seeing how much I watched back in the day.
that sucks for Schwab that he got canned. But he isn't the first hard working American whose loyalty to their respective company wasn't enough to save their job in the end.

They decided to drop Schwab and pick up a new up and comer: STUMP STINELY.

My respect and interest in ESPN died long ago. I wish that company would dismantle itself and cease to exist.
Posted on 6/13/13 at 3:29 pm to jcole4lsu
So what?
26 years is a long arse time to work for one company. Why pay him that much when you can pay someone else less? This is business, his wife isn't their concern, neither is his history as a philanthropist or anything.

Because some people aren't assholes.
A 50 billion dollar company doesn't need to dump one person over 10 thousand dollars, especially one who worked there for a quarter century. And is it Howie Schwab's fault ESPN overpaid him?
If you justify those decisions, you're just a dick. There are more things to life than a fricking profit margin. Disney is not going bankrupt.
You're probably the kind of business owner who would fire your most loyal employee because your 17 year old daughter got drunk and totaled her new SUV.

False choice
You started with the false choices.
Neither one of has complete information on why this particular decision was made. Was Schwab overpaid for the services he rendered, was his job redundant in the new Information Age we live in?
You assume he was let go for reasons you have no clue are true or not.
The people with the best set of information on whether or not Howie Schwab should still work for ESPN are the ones who made decision to fire him.
quote:
One, you assume that Howie Schwab is preventing ESPN from being profitable, which I highly doubt
So even if he no longer provides a service to his employer that they feel they should pay for they should continue to do so because they can afford to? That's silly.
quote:
Finally, I'm not a stockholder in ESPN, so I don't give a shite about their stock price. I'm a consumer and care about their quality of product.... which got worse with this decision. That's what I care about.
There is ZERO chance you will be able to point to any thing that ESPN airs in the coming months and be able to show that it is now worse bc Howie Schwab no longer works for them.
