Big Board: Alex Len moving up

ESPN Article.. Insider article but the whole article should be available in a few days...
Len, who is on crutches due to a stress fracture in his left ankle, isn't able to work out, either. But that hasn't stopped his rise on our Big Board. Increasingly, teams are looking to him as a potentially safer alternative to Noel. While he's likely to miss the next four to five months as he rehabs his ankle, teams feel like he has better size, is more polished offensively and could have a bigger upside than Noel. As we've previously reported, he's seriously in the mix with the Cavs for the No. 1 pick, with some sources indicating the Cavs could be moving his direction (I'm told Noel, Porter and Oladipo are the others). The Bobcats are also very high on Len, as are the Suns and Pelicans.
Interesting...

I'd pick Len over Saric

i don't think there's a single person anywhere who would argue that point

I think he's moved into the top 5. Bummer.

Hell no not bummer. Pushes more talent down

I'd take any of the ones being pushed down!

what kind of backward reasoning is that?

It just depends on who gets pushed down. If some teams pick on needs and a talented guy falls then that's fine with me

Well it was expected that both Bennett and Burke had to go top 5 for us to have a chance at one of McLemore, Porter, or Olidipo. Len going top 5 means only of those two does. With AD and Ryno probably being on the floor together late in games, I'd rather one of those three to drop. I'm starting to get the feeling that Noel may be the former "top 4 lock" to be there at 6, though.

Nerlens in New Orleans. It was destined at birth.

Bout time someone else realizes there's better talent in this draft.

Yeah, if Len is rising while Noel is dropping that actually could happen. I wonder if the problem is his knee or his weight. That weigh in made him go from the next Marcus Camby to the next John Henson.

It's a combination of things.
1. He now has a history of knee injuries. Freak or not, an injury is an injury, and they add up.
2. His weight. He always looked thin, but that was surprising. I actually think the knee is holding him back there a bit. I wouldn't think more weight would be helpful on a repaired knee. That said, I've heard that strength of the surrounding muscles pre-surgery plays a huge role in recovery. You're going to lose muscle, so you can't start with little to none....
3. He really lacks "skills" of a #1 overall. The guy is tall and rangy and has/had elite athleticism. Some of that will go away as he gains necessary weight, but will he develop enough of a skill set to make up for it and more?

I think Noel turns into a Dwight Howard type player (not saying he will be that good) who dunks, blocks and rebounds with no real offensive presence.
IMHO
That being said, I don't think that's a bad type of player to pair with Anthony Davis who is an offensive threat.
This is the craziest draft I can ever remember. Have we ever not known who the first five picks were going to be before?
