Question on home field advantage

If a #1 seed is playing another #1 seed, how is home field determined?
Posted on 6/4/13 at 10:01 am to LSUROXS
The Top 8 national seeds get the home field

Care to explain how there are two "#1" seeds?

Each regional has a 1 seed...only one of the two is a top 8 though.

Home Field is determined by national seeds. Are you actually referring to home field or are you talking about home team during the three games of the regional?

You msut be new to college baseball. Each of the 16 regionals has a number 1 seed. I think 14 of the number 1 seeds advanced to the Super Regional. There are a ton of 1 vs 1 matchups.

I know they alternate home team but I wanted to know how home field is determined. The explaination given makes sense.

gm 1- LSU
gm 2- OU
gm 3- coin flip
ETA: it would be the same if Va Tech was coming (1 seed)

To further answer the question, if a national seed doesn't win their regional, as is the case with the Rice/Oregon regional, the NCAA decides who the host team will be. Not sure how exactly they decide this, or if there is a set method for it but my guess is that if the 1 seed from the other regional won that regional, then it is more than likely that that team would host. Example - NC State was a 1 seed and Rice was a 2 seed. Rice beat the National Seed in Oregon, but NC State was a number one seed in their regional.

I think this is correct.

Coin flip part is bullshite. If the series extends to a rubber match, the national seed has earned home field advantage in that game.

If I remember correctly, majority of teams submit host bids before play begins. Usually the 8 national seeds and 1 seeds are hosts, but not always. In the even a top 8 loses, it will usually go to the other 1 seed, but NCAA could go back to bid. That's also what happens if neither 1 wins.
** if I remember correctly. Question came up a few years ago.

this is decided by the higher ranked team. a #1 seed in a regional is likely to be the higher ranked team then a #2, so they would host the super regional.

You checking my man card? TSU grad..
Long enough but what you don't know is the behind the scene shite that goes on in every office all over the country. But if you had a real job you would understand. Several guys were having a debate about this subject and we decided to consult "The Droppins". It's not a lack of knowledge but more of trying to settle a debate over a sports issue.
