Tar Heels choosen #1 before SEC Title game

Just read this small snippet on ESPN.
LINK
"Vanderbilt had the nation's No. 1 RPI after the regular season, ahead of North Carolina. That was just one of the criteria used by the selection committee, Farrell said.
"It really is kind of a marriage of art and science," he said. "We get a lot of data put in front of us. We get advice from regional advisory committees. At the end of the day it's a vote of 10 committee members."
Farrell said the decision to pick the Tar Heels over the Commodores was made before the end of Vanderbilt's 5-4, 11-inning loss to LSU in the SEC tournament championship game Sunday."
Is this normal practice of a selection committee to choose before all games are played/decided? Just wondering.

It's dumb but doesn't matter. I would bet anything the national title is LSU-Vandy

I can't ask for a more manageable road for LSU to Omaha, nonetheless.

AKA, we throw shite at the wall and see what sticks. These dudes just don't want to rely on what the polls and RPI tell them. They have to find a way to be different, so they go against the grain. Whatever floats their boat, though.

Yea that's a bit premature. Still idiotic that UNC had the top seed locked up while the consensus #1 was playing

A hose job IMO and probably shouldn't have disclosed that. Regardless things worked out well for LSU in this instance.

There is absolutely no difference between being #1 or #2--period.

Considering how the CWS teams get picked, there should only be three controversies that might even matter:
1. The 8th/9th Spot (Super-Regional Host)
2. The 16th/17th Spot (Regional Host)
3. The Last Few Entrance Spots
Everything else doesn't mean jackshit.

I'll take that bet. Sure, Vandy and LSU are the best two teams in the country, but give me the field and you got a deal

If we were going to get that crazy-easy bracket UNC has, I would like to be the one seed. Otherwise I still believe #1 =/= #8

No shite, but some people said the same thing last year.

Ok, except when they floated their illogical boat and kept a 36-20 LSU team out of the bracket in 2011.

I'm confident in this team but we had a fairly easy road to Omaha last year as well...

Riiggghhhhttt, but is it normal to literally say that a championship game (Let's forget that its Vandy and LSU for a moment) means absolutely nothing to a voting committee in college baseball?

how many CWS has the ACC won?

I'll bet you a bitcoin at least one of the other teams makes it.

It's dumb twice, once because they picked before all games were played and they picked the wrong team before all games were played
