Yeah, like John Daly and David Duval. If I were a current tour pro I'd just DQ myself from a tournament if I saw those 2 guys in the field.
If they had won anything recently they wouldn't need the sponsors exemption. I guess a better question would be when was the last time a sponsor's exemption won the tournament?

I am amazed that most people have zero clue what it is like being a tour pro when you're not ranked inside the top 100 in the world.

Do you know how many players in a given event have "won something recently" ??

I don't know the answer to that, but a few weeks ago a 22 yr old rookie won the Wells Fargo after barely getting into the tournament as the 4th alternate. He was ranked 1207 in the world. So I'm not sure what point you are trying to make here. Anyone can win.
