Bronson was amazing, I couldn't wait for the movie to end.
The movie started off so great. I thought this was going to be an amazing movie......But it was just alright.
Chopper was better imo.

Refn's becoming the Malick of noir crime thrillers
totally stealing this line. I don't like Malick either. Both completely fail as storytellers. They prefer imagery over a coherent narrative. This sounds like Drive without the great performance from Albert Brooks.

Yeah, I was just thinking that this sounds like an exaggerated version of Drive, which led to me trying to determine why I enjoyed Drive so much. Brooks and to a lesser extent Cranston saved that movie.

It's like a real life "Medellin"
Medellin was more like a fictional version of something that happens all the time.

I still want to see it. Even if it sucks, he's earned a pass.
I go back and forth on Winding Refn. I enjoyed Valhalla Rising to a certain extent. It was visually intriguing. Very dreamlike. Or perhaps nightmarish is a better word. But it wasn't really a great movie.
Bronson, despite Tom Hardy's great performance, was complete arse. It had no momentum at all. It simply sat stagnant as you wondered what this nut job would do next and why you cared. Then you realize you don't, and you turn it off halfway through the second act.
Drive was incredible and Winding Refn's most complete movie that I've seen. I'm still intrigued by Only God Forgives, but a little less so now.

I'm behind on Winding Refn's other works. I've only seen Drive. And based on that, I'll buy a ticket to whatever he puts out.
The Pusher trilogy is up next though.
I'm still pumped for Only God Forgives after looking at other opinions. Seems to be pretty divided, not all negative.

It looks good to me. Bunch of uptight frenchies if you ask me. They probably mad that Gosling didn't show up and wanted to trash him for it.

Ryan Gosling only has 17 lines of dialogue.
WHAT?!?!? How can you call this a movie if the star only speaks 17 lines??? Movies are supposed to have people talking and stuff!!

Movies aren't books. They are movies. But I know I can't change your mind about that.

I know they aren't books. But the idea that art shouldn't say something is such a cultural cul de sac. It's just asserting your own meaninglessness. Why should I bother?

I'm just amazed that a film can be soo polarizing. I thought Drive was polarizing but this one sounds that much more so. I will not be seeing it but look forward to the epic arguments that it will spawn.

there are few more pretentious shots than a slow mo/stationary shot with the focal character in the middle just sitting/standing there
i'm sure baloo will back me up there
