Number of LSU women's sports vs men's

I was looking through a list of LSU men's and women's sports and thought the number of each were supposed to be equal? The only exclusive men's sports I saw were baseball and football while women have soccer, softball, volleyball, and gymnastics. Am I missing something here or are there indeed more women's sports? Would that be in conflict with Title IX?

More concerned with scholarships than sports. So football alone equals like 3 womens sports

If we got rid of football we could add a ton of sports

This. Back when it was instituted LSU had to dump sports like wrestling (which had risen to become a top 10 program) and men's gymnastics. While I always thought Title IX a good idea I also though there should be some allowances made for football, being the massive sport and moneymaker it is.

Yes. This.
I always thought that football should be separate and shouldn't count in the Title IX equality discussion...then everything else should be equal. Nobody asked me though...

I agree when the IX was implemented it was a good idea and something that needed to be done. But now male athletes are held back unjustly, some LSU sports that would be great as varsity sports:
1) Wrestling
2) Men's Soccer
3) Men's Lacrosse
1) Wrestling
2) Men's Soccer
3) Men's Lacrosse

The number of scholarships has to be equal per Title IX. Since football has such a huge number of scholarships, there have to be more women's sports to balance it out.

The NCAA should allow an additional 100 football scholarships per school for women only, so we can get some more sports going

actually this is not really true, Title IX is based on potential participants and there are 3 defintions you can use to get to this. It is based on looking at 1) all student pop, men to women, 2) all those interested in playing sports men to women, 3) other deomgraphic info. In fact, you can expect LSU to ADD 1-2 women's sports in the next 12 months...write it down...it's on the way...the # of scholarships is not a main driver, it is the nmuber of opportunties and selction based on what the students at you Univ want or represent.

Scholarships is the reason a lot of smaller schools drop football, but pickup things such as men's soccer and wrestling.
