Also, did Tony use out of town guys?
Furio was one but he ended up being integrated into Tony's crew...until he started sniffing Carmella's arse.

I meant to kill Phil, they used hired hitters from time to time, but usually it would be with more time than it seemed they had between Phil getting hit and Tony

Its a possibility, but nothing more than that
And that is the beauty of the ending.
The last second of film pertaining to the Soprano saga shows Tony very clearly still alive as it cuts to black.
I agree that the final scene does allude to and arguably so that Tony MIGHT have been killed but we simply do not know for sure. END OF STORY.
Anything other than the fact that Tony was still alive is pure speculation...and I love it that way.
For the record, Tony was alive at the end of The Sopronos - FACT
She dropped it on purpose - FACT

The series is inconsistent with their whole philosophy.
For instance, the whole "you never hear it coming" conversation between Tony and his brother-in-law is always referenced as a clue to the ending. Even Chase (I think) referenced it at some point.
Yet the brother-in-law was absolutely lit up in that hobby shop and Silvio (though technically still alive) was as well. They both sure as hell "saw it coming". And there were plenty of other hits throughout the series that were short on subtlety.

The POV analysis assumes a lot that is not in evidence. The cut to black does not have to be Tony's POV. Its one interpretation. That blogger is pretty full of himself as are some posters here.
To me, the whole point is that we dont know. WE are the ones who got taken out. Ripped from Tony's world (whether he was too or not). The POINT is that we NEVER know exactly when life will end until it does. Especially in the world that the show created.
The moment in the diner was a routine moment like a myriad others. Was is it a moment of death? MAYBE. The guy in the members only jacket was a routine guy like thousands of others who could come in that diner. Was he the instrument of death? MAYBE.
The MAYBE is the whole POINT.

I hope he's still alive because The Sopranos was one of my favorite shows. I am still watching re-runs.
I remember when I watched the final episode and it ended I thought, "Did Andy Kaufman write this episode?"

good analysis
Didn't I already say this...

Personally, I don't think he was killed. The song, that being "Don't Stop Believing", is playing at the time which indicates to me at least in some way that the Sopranos live on, and what we've seen to that point is merely a glimpse into the life. We, the audience, have in essence been taken out.
There really is no "right" answer per se. But to me, he doesn't die. We're merely abruptly taken out of their lives.
Where are my bows?

Actually it doesnt
He's fricking dead. If there's ever a movie it will be a prequel involving Uncle Junior and Johnny Boy
