Atlanta will be interesting.
Dwight and Smith are tight, but I dont think the Hawks want to keep Smith. If DHoward will come only if Smith is there, do they go for it and dump Horford later?
Cap guys, is it even possible- with cap holds- for ATL to have enough space for Howard and Paul?

If those are the only options, if he doesn't come back here, I want him to stay in LA and continue to fail

No, what would probably happen is ATL S&T of Horford, Lou Williams and John Jenkins for Dwight. Renounce all tenders and options and Dwight is the only one on the roster at that point and you sign CP3 and Josh Smith and build Miami style.

Thanks.
So S/T still legal, but salaries must match? Or can Dwight not get the 5 year max if its S/T?
Teague being renounced would be an intriguing option for the Pelicans

LA wouldn't be the recipient of the S&T so it's ok.

I assume that means they can't receive the signed player, not that they can't receive any players, so them getting under contract guys like Horford should be ok and I'd imagine Dwight could get his max money/years, but he'd need to take a paycut if he wanted to go the big 3 route.

Right. Makes sense. Thanks for walking me through that.

this has been obvious for a long time now. he lashes at guys after petty f-ups and never seems smile or enjoy anything.

Do the Knicks have cap space for CP next year? Wasn't that his plan all along? To play with Melo?

No. They are above the $74 million threshold that makes Sign and Trades illegal. In theory they could do a straight dump of Felton or Novak to get under that line (either Kidd or Camby would work too but no one with cap space would take them for free). But even then they'd still have to trade to get him and I can't see Sterling wanting any big salary Knick other than Melo. Maybe they could find someone to give assets the Clippers would want in return for Chandler, but would CP3 still want to go to the Knicks if Melo or Chandler were gone? He's already in LA so NY as a market has no appeal to him, if he left it'd be to win, not just switch to a different playoff alsoran in a different glamor market. I think there is no chance he becomes a Knick.

CP wants to win Championships. And that's it.
just as good a chance in nola as LA

He will not win one with us any time soon. Even adding him, I still think we are a little ways away, because Davis has to keep developing over the next 3 years or so, and we need depth.
cp3+cousins/d12/pekovic/brolo and we are instantly in the west conf finals.

LAC has the huge LA market, an already established player in Blake, etc. They can probably attract a big time coach and big time FAs.
im getting a sense that this big market talk is over stressed. starting next season, big market will be 2 times more costly for owners. from now on it will be great front offices and coaching. not buying players and favoritism.
cp3 loves the pic n roll and big men who can shoot short range shots. reliable outside shooter as well. thats what we like to do.

Big markets are where you get more endorsement deals which is exactly why the people cashing in on CP3 pushed him from NOLA to LA. The CBA can change the #basketballreasons advantage that the big markets have had, but it can't change the economic advantage.

Are the Clipper eliminated from the playoffs?
Posted on 5/1/13 at 12:09 pm to GynoSandberg
It's not looking good and there's not much else to talk about.
Posted on 5/1/13 at 12:14 pm to GynoSandberg
The only way to get a 5y deal as aa FA is to sign with the team you are on and stay there for a bit.

I think that is very false in the short term.

Well we are unlikely to get any of those guys. Pekovic seems doable, but he's an RFA.

Unfortunately not the case. Endorsements. The smarter players will take less to go to big markets so they can get the endorsement dollars, which are probably worth more than their contract.

I think this is overstated. Are these guys really making a bunch of money on local endorsement deals? Is Dwyane Wade making millions pushing "Charlie's Cuban Press" or "South Beach Smoothie"?

Seems like the story of his life after he became a star. Nothing is ever good enough for him. The guy is a stud, but he's closer to Dwight than Kobe if you know what I mean.

With today's marketing world, the big market thing does not affect endorsements for marquee pkayers. Those markets have a legacy which is appealing due to success in a time partially driven by when the emdorsements were skewed to big markets.
For those luxury players... Odom, Terry... they get the benefit of the endorsement bias.

He's trying to be Kobe-like.
Yes, Kobe one time wanted out of L.A., but he never quit on his team like Chrissy did when he was getting outplayed be lesser PGS for a majority of that season. I'll never respect him again for that.
I do think he wants to win more than Dwight. Dwight just doesnt want the finger pointed at him when his team loses.

CP3 is a great player and I loved having him in N.O. But he's not the key to the Pelicans' success. We're going to get another PG not named Paul or Vasquez, and we're going to pick up a couple of other intriguing FA's.
