Nashville country turned its back on its roots long ago and opted to go the route of "entertainment" "pop with a fiddle"
It needs more of this, from the boys who are credited with starting/being forefathers of the alt country movement (hard to believe this is over 20 years old)....

Unfortunately, even the most talented of today's country artists seem to be just be another version of arena rock.

There IS still good country music being made out there - just hard to find. Like this guy. Sturgill Simpson - Life Ain't Fair
Found him on savingcountrymusic.com which is my favorite for bashing new country and promoting real country music.

My very favorite music blog.
It used to be rawhideandvelvet.com but then Rita went from snarky to suck-up and now she's totally boring. She's getting sponsors and appearing in ads and hosting events and radio shows, though, so I guess that whole thing is working for her.

SCM has turned me onto a shitload of good music.
Plus his reviews make me splatter my computer screen with spit. Jason Aldean's 1994...

the irony here is the pubescent and 20-something douche rocket cultural front running suburbanites that this type of country rap will appeal to don’t have any idea who the hell Joe Diffie is, and furthermore, won’t care

But in the end I’m not even confident in saying that songwriters Thomas Rhett, Luke Laird, and Barry Dean aren’t actually fricking with Jason Aldean and the rest of us by putting together this song and daring for it to be cut and released to radio. They may be sitting back laughing their asses off at all of this.

"Paying dues."
It has no soul anymore. Like most of modern life, it's almost too sanitized.

Speaking of SCM.com, I love every single thing about this article:
7 Men Who Could Immediately Make Country Music Better
Four of my absolute favorite bands/singer-songwriters are on this list.
