I seem to remember one on a Friday afternoon, maybe around 2001 or 2002, anyone remember this?

Lately, it's been a Saturday affair. They've turned it into an all day event.

Seems like it was on a Friday in the not too distant past.

Last year was Wednesday morning

Devery Henderson caught a touchdown pass and Shyrone Carey rushed for a score in leading the Purple team to a 24-21 win over the White squad in LSU's annual Spring Game here Friday afternoon in Tiger Stadium.
With the win, the Purple team will now be the recipient of a steak dinner with all of the trimmings up their return from Spring Break, while the White squad will eat a beans and franks dinner on paper plates.
The contest was played before 8,002 fans, with over 3,100 of those fans using e-tickets, which were purchased and printed off the Internet, a first in LSU history.

8000 fans in 2003?? Wow I thought we would have hit at least 20,000 in attendance. That's awfully low for a college town with a loyal fan base like LSU.

That's true.. Does anyone know how many fans we had last year and what we are to expect this year?

LSU's spring game attendance is always terrible. I like it. Having 90,000 plus at a spring game is creepy as frick, imo.

Yeah I thought only having 8,000 fans was interesting, so I included it in the quote.

Approximately 33,000 gathered in Tiger Stadium to celebrate LSU's 2011 Southeastern Conference Championship and to see the annual National L Club Spring Game on Saturday, as junior Zach Mettenberger threw two second-quarter touchdown passes to lead the White team to a 24-17 victory over the Purple team.

This.
Can we move on past the discussions of attendance at a practice?

It used to be a night game. It always had a bigger crowd at night. I rarely missed it myself.

Started going in '97 and they've always been on a Saturday from what I remember. '02 or '03 was the last one I went to, when Marcus Randall tore his ACL on a simple 3-5 step drop...went to plant his right foot and he was done. Amazingly he rehabbed in time to begin fall practice in August..always liked that kid's attitude.

I always thought the whole steak/beans thing was ghey. Who gives a shite who wins the spring game and what the players eat.
