Dell Demps

I know Monty gets a lot of heat, but how much blame of this disastrous season do you place at his doorstep?
I don't expect Monty to be fired, but if it were to happen, does Demps go too? Will a new era bring new leadership?

What exactly did he do wrong to deserve blame? Other than doing what he had to do and signing Gordon (that some of you dislike the move), what move did he make to make the season go bad?
I'll place blame on him if there isn't a viable team next season.

This is definitely a new era. You just replied to one of my posts without attacking me. Thank you.

What has Dell Demps done to warrant blame. This was a growing season and we all knew it.

do you really think a small market team can just reload like LA or Boston?
what were you expecting from a team with 4 first time starters and the fifth was hurt for half the season? the roster was filled out with one proven player, three rookies, end of career vet, 2 DLeague players, and a workman backup big. This is the only place where people thought the Hornets wouldn't be a bad team.
It's going to take time. If next year is this bad, Dell and Monty are both on the hot seat

Ok ok. That's why I asked the question. I know they aren't going anywhere this year. I just wanted to get y'all's opinion on the job he's done.
I agree they are both on the hot seat. I was just curious if some of y'all thought that the new era would bring a new GM/coach.
Wasn't a troll question.

Didn't they extend both Dell and Monty this past fall?
Dell is still a bit of a mystery to me. He has done fine getting value from nobodies and clearing cap space for the rebuild. But it's time to build a roster with some long term vision.

I have a feeling with this board it will never be Demps' fault until the day he gets fired

So what moves has he made that you haven't liked?
We traded for Ryno and Lopez, who are each now underpaid on long term contracts.
QPon for Vasquez was a great move.
Smiht/Willie Green for Brackings/Songaila was a good one.
Okafor/Ariza for Lewis's expiring (which sped up the rebuilt by a full year and helped free up the space to take on Lopez) was a fantastic trade.
Thornton for Landry was a somewhat lateral move, and MT5's not getting along with Monty was a fairly big part of it.
The only potentially bad move may have been in extending Gordon, but that's a no win situation since if he doesn't extend him, they he pretty much just got a Aminu/Rivers/one year of Kaman out of CP3.
I'm really struggling to see what Demps is "at fault" for.

How was this a "disastrous season"? It's year one of the rebuild.
We won more games this year than the Sonics/Thunder did in year one of Durant. Perspective.

Interesting. Did they still have Rashard Lewis that year? That would make the teams very similar.

Pretty much what everyone else has said. Demps has made great moves and decisions considering the circumstances he was put under...

Dell and Monty are not on the hot seat. Not even close to it

The way this team quit at times, the 2nd half collapses (not Dell's fault), the whole EG soap opera, that was bad. Disastrous maybe a bad choice of words, but other than Davis, I'm not that optimistic about us going forward. Ryno played out of his mind early on. I was tooting his horn early on, but he definitely came back down to Earth throughout the season.
We have some cap space. I want to see who we can attract. I know for some fans there is an already built in excuse because we're not LA or NY, but I for one don't wanna hear that. Winning is not built on excuses, losing is.

Dell made 5 obviously good moves this season, Anderson, Lopez and Roberts and declining the options of Henry and Aminu.
He made 2 moves that aren't looking great but haven't busted yet and probably can't be judged until the trade deadline next year, Rivers and Gordon.
Another potentially good move could have been the Warrick/Carroll trade/buyout if he uses the $500k saved to buy into the 2nd round and get a worthwhile player.
The Gordon signing certainly can blow up in his face and could potentially be a big enough failure to threaten his job security, but I really can't count that against him yet because I disagree with those that think 2012-13 cap space would have been very useful and I still think Demps can get a decent trade out of Gordon.

I'm not saying I'm not a fan of Demps, and sure he has made a lot of solid trades and moves
But my god that move with Jack was TERRIBLE
By far the worst move he has made since he has had the job
edit: other than re-signing Gordon

Yeah, I feel like we would have had 5+ more wins this year with Jack still on the roster. He is pretty clutch down the stretch, an area we really struggled in this season.
Then again, maybe he was traded with "tanking" in mind. I dunno

We were supposed to be bad this season, so you can't blame him too much. But the team could be in a better position. In hindsight, I think there are 3 main moves I think he should have made or not made..
1. Accept the Houston trade for Gordon (Motie, Martin and 1st round pick). Basically the same trade OKC got for Harden. Gordon would be gone and the team would have gained a couple of nice pieces..
2. Not trade or let Jack or Landry go. This would include trading Ayon for Anderson. For the same money we are playing for Anderson, we could have kept the other 3.
3. Not move Ariza and Okafor in a salary dump. I didn't like either player, but they both play solid defense. Plus they would have been more attractive this season for other teams in a salary dump.
The team would have looked like this..
Vasquez/Jack/Roberts
Martin/Rivers
Aminu/Ariza/Miller
Davis/Landry/Ayon
Okafor/Motie/Smith
Just a tougher, more defensive team. Easier transition for Davis and Rivers, plus Vasquez and Aminu get the chance to shine.
This offseason, we would have two late lottery picks, not much cap space (which we probably won't use anyway), but nice trade pieces. Just a bit better foundation to build around Davis.

That's a horrid foundation

I mean, if your cool with being nothing more than the jazz for 5 years then yeah, I mean I guess that's a good foundation
